I too built a 6 figure income with 2 businesses one was totally done on the internet the other by postcards, mailings and cold calling. In addition I have over 12 years experience in the travel industry, with the Hyatt corporation, Budget car rental, Forlow Tours, and studied travel agent training at IATAC.

I have seen marketing and advertising evolve from postcards and mailings to video postcards and technology that blows one's mind. And that's a GOOD thing. BUT people are still people who don't just hand over thousands of dollars to people just because they followed a "system".

People are NOT cattle and most are not followers, especially when it comes to spending thousands of dollars, so any system is just for the recruiter NOT the recruit.

Tools are important in any business, the good Director will know what Tools actually work and use the tools along with personal training one on one.

Many don't realize that Coastal has an entire training website that is FREE to use with tools and resources etc.

I disagree. While you used the word follower...I'd choose to use the term trainee or mentee. You see, when I got started I had to learn what made Coastal different. I had to learn what worked and what didn't.

Here's where the challenge comes in Jani spoke about "TIME" and how alot of top directors are too busy to work with most people. I have had the please of getting to know ALOT of great directors with Coastal and alot of them have "teams". I've spent time with some of these teams and must tell you that the "duplicatable" system that seems to be going around in Coastal is to sell the membership and show the system....THAT'S IT.

One very upset director shared with me that their director (who is a leader who has been given a stage to speak on) didn't do most of the things that they were training on. HOLY BS Batman, what does that say for the training??????

While some directors have put themselves in a circle of influence. I've not forgotten where my team came from and made it a priority to spend time with them at events. I've also made it a priority to be approachable and to allow others to spend time with me.

When it come to being a new person with Coastal there is a learning curve. The teams I've seen come in two areas. 1) Buy leads 2) Share it all.

When it comes to the share it all approach, who's going to coach those who require assistance??

Just one more thing.......

There's a direction that ALOT of Coastal Directors are going.....but they will be burned. I can tell you that they'll find that 85% of the marketing they do in that area will ONLY get them a large advertising bill.....HOW DO I KNOW???

Duh....I did it myself! And I've passed it along to my clients and team members.

NOthing like a $6000 bill for something that gets you 0 sales.

Jay, you totally misread what my point was.

I am speaking of people in general BUYING I was NOT speaking of training, that's a whole different ball of wax.

I was saying that as a BUYER if I were told first you have to listen to a call than read this profile than look at this movie and than you are allowed to buy I would say bahbye, and go on to someone who will take my money and tell me why I should buy from them and not buy from their system. That's what I was speaking about, the person as a buyer.

Its funny so much is being made about getting the right director. Let me tell you my story. We got in Coastal and 7 weeks later had made 10k. Shortly after that our director left the business. Now her director was none other than a CSG Co-founder. They never invited us to their group forums and as we were our directors first profit sale they as well as us were pretty much on our own. I didnt cry or bellyache about a director. A great director is an asset but there is enough info out there to do it on your own. Heck the CSG has so much training that many "orphans" have found themsleves there. Dave Heidel and Tammy Fisher left other groups and were adopted to the CSG and both are now leaders there. It really balls down to how much do you want it. If you need food on your table and you have to do what you have to do, to be honest whether you have a director or not you are going to do what you have to do. Its easier with a good director but what is a good director? Is it someone that holds your hand through everything or someone that gives you the best they can and shows you the real deal. A while back I remember a post from Jani and she talked about how much she does for her prospects. While I commend her for her efforts I dont have the time or energy to babysit anyone. They are all adults getting into business. The business world is tough and they must toughen up. Years ago I used to make calls for my team mates that worked in the daytime. Bob Biss of the CSG asked me if I was trying to build weakness in my team. When he said it I was offended but looking back none of those people did anything in Coastal so who was the fool ? I say it was me for wasting my time on someone that didnt really want their business as much as I did. It is a hard thing to swallow but this business is not for everyone. Many people drop out and are replaced. Its the way of network marketing. I say create a good system people can follow and guide them through it. Dont hold their hands just guide them. By having a good syetem it levels the playing field. Now to have a good system you have to make your business well rounded and this forum gives us all ideas and tips and strategies. Thanks for all of your help.

As I have been very strictly told not to mention the other biz opt in this forum and Vishal has graciously started a new thread where the other opportunity can be talked about those were my last post on that subject. I hope that you all can be open and share more about the systems you use so I can continue to grow my incredible Coastal business that has already propelled me to the CSG Leadership, created an amazing lifestyle for me and my family and had me featured in the HBC magazine. Ready to talk Coastal.

Hello

I agree with Jani

it is important to join with someone you gel with, otherwise all the newbies would never have sales, BUT the person you are looking to join must be part of a winning group. It is not sensible to be part of a group where the blind leads the blind, there has to be a leader and head trainer with a pulse on what is happening in the market place.

The question a person looking at coastal really has, is will I have support, for how long and what kind of extra special tools/systems/services do you offer that the other groups do not...

what is your unique selling proposal?

If you can answer that (especially before it even gets asked) you will be ahead of the game.

Hope this helps
maria

PS even tho' I am with WCYS, I still close at least 80% of sales, sometimes even more outside of the call center. I give everyone an option to join as they feel comfortable. I have always wondered if the big proponents of the call centers have anyone joining outside of call centers, or if I am unique in this matter?

I don't market anything but the call center but if someone wants to join without the call center I will surley sign them up.

when I joined coastal in April, 2004, my sponsor introduced me to CSG.

Then he promptly left the state and I never ever heard from him since.

I was orphaned, I sat on my package for two months and did not know how to activate it and send in an app or use a voucher to go on a trip.

I could have easily looked at my kit, saw a conf # and dialed it and asked, but I was too chicken.

So, what did I do, I do what business people do, I found a way.

I found someone online, called them asked if they'd spend 4 minutes with me explaining what I needed to do and they did.

I called other coastal directors, including Julie Shinew and spent time and money, at my own expense to learn the product and learn the systems, by traveling all over America to meet them and learn from them.

Then I willed into existence that I would be the best, be different, and help people.

I learned from many of the leaders here who are on this forum how to do this, we all learn from each other.

I did not have a good director, but I had a GOOD HEART and I was hungry and I would not take "I don't know" for an answer and I went out and got answers, sought our mentors, invested $1000's upon $1000's on getting specialized knowledge, and now, I freely give it to my team so they can do with it, what they want.

So I understand some arguements are for "Watchout who you join with"

And I understand "where there is a will, there is a way" and your director does not matter one stitch.

Some of the strong recommendations about "right director" are to create bonds where leads will feel YOU are the right director, it is part of the marketing process cause that is what we know prospects want to hear.

In the end, the strength of your good or bad directors training is not in their training or systems, but in your ability to show up, get up, put up and then put out and do the work.

It's all about what's inside of you and if you are willing to do what it takes to get people where they want to go and to do what successful people do in terms of marketing and advertising.

I close many of my own sales, cause they call me, and they want a system, sure, I like a true leveraging system, the kind entrepreneurs use, not a JOB system, where a person has to do it all and rely on uplines who are non existent.

While others want the upline training dependence system.

In the end, systems help but it's the "mindset" one needs to have where they know what they really want in life.

If it's to be it's up to me. But I also 'get by with a little help from my friends'

good post Jeff

you could have called the shipping center to get your upline's name...

I have many call me to tell me I am their upline and need help and am happy to assist (need proof tho')...had 2 today

It is essential to have a support system, it is too difficult to do market coastal totally on your own.

But once you are situated, functioning on your own, utilising support from peers, group, is easy.

cheers
maria

That's exactly what I meant BUT you put it so much more eloquently.

"With a little help from a friend" oldie but goody.

Looking forward to your Podcast or report from the seminar, wish I could be there, will be in Vegas end of the month for 3 days tho at The Palms.
