Just my opinion here but all depends on how much you wanna make. I knew someone who sold Avon and did her best business selling to groups/parties. If your just gonna sell to family, friends and friends of friends you might make a decent part time income if they buy from you monthly. Otherwise, if you want to make serious money, parties are best as they always lead to more parties and are way less work.

Im a webmaster and have my own websites though i dont have websites for my particular businesses. Reason being it takes time to build up traffic and on top of that time to build up the kinda traffic thats gonna purchase stuff online. I hope the online sales works for you, i really do, but dont limit yourself to just one income stream.

Blogging is good. If you have a facebook account you can blog on there in your "notes" section. I got some business for both my Tupperware & RTPR businesses that way. But again, i'd suggest you diversify and do a little of everything. You'll open yourself up to a wider market by marketing your business from different aspects....

The wonderful thing about Avon is that unlike most other businesses, you do with it whatever you want and what works for you! You can absolutely have parties and can get all the party samples & supplies you want right in your back office, but parties are not required, like Mary Kay. You can sell 100% online only if that is what you want to do. You can go door to door, but again it is completely up to what works best for you. The only thing about selling 100% online is that there is one requirement that you place an order that is shipped to you every two weeks, this is so you can order products for yourself and get at least a minimum of brochures to have on hand, but again, you don't even have to buy anything, it is just that you will become inactive if you skip two orders in a row, so in other words, as long as you at least order even one item at least once a month, you are fine. Reps are offered really great priced demo items as well, and it is always a good idea to try products and use them for yourself because it makes selling them much easier when you know you use and love the products!

I have said this before, but It really works, so I will share it again... I get my best customers from businesses! I have a real-estate office filled with women, I have a beauty shop & several different Doctor's & Dentist offices that I serve and stop by every two weeks with new brochures. This works so well because you have loads of women all in one location and can get multiple orders each campaign from one location. When women see each other buying products, sometimes it makes them want to buy as well, LOL! This is the easiest & also my favorite way to sell because it is so convenient!

I was thinking of dropping some brochures off at businesses but wasn't sure if it would work or not. I'm bringing some to church and giving them to my friends there and I'm bringing some to homeschool group and giving them to my friends there but most of my family is far and they would be purchasing online. I'm hoping I can do the majority of sales online. How would an Avon party go? Would you just use samples or would you have actual product on hand (that's a lot of product)! I know Mary Kay they have the product on hand and hostess rewards, what would Avon's hostess rewards be? I ask this because it doesn't really talk about home parties in the manual.

Cold calling is a good method to get more business. It will yield mixed results but even if you only get one customer that could lead to more customers.

I cant elaborate on how an Avon party would go but i can with a Tupperware and maybe you can use some of the concepts. My fiance loosens the party up with some games. She plays them for about 15-20mins before she gets into the presentation. We have some of our products on display and she explains every one of them and their different uses. Sometimes she does cooking presentations too. Soon after the sales begin and people inquire about booking partys to earn free gifts and/or to get more info on how to become a Tupperware consultant.....

Okay, most of my family and friends are on Facebook so I was going to market the online version for them because I'd be driving all over kingdom come for deliveries! I think on my first order, I'm going to order 100 brochures and pass them out in the neighborhood and see how that goes. Then I'm going to vistaprint and get some free business cards and put them on cards in the Wal-Mart parking lot. But someone mentioned that I have to place a physical order every two weeks. Can this be business supplies or my own personal order and count? I don't want to go inactive.

Let me also say that from my own experience, putting out loads of brochures in my own neighborhood didn't get me very much results at all. The problem is that you really need to make follow-up calls to everyone you give a brochure to or you are wasting a lot of time and money. I have found that people won't usually take the time to call you, but if you call them, then they are more likely to remember something they saw in the brochure that they wanted.

As for the parties, again you can do this however you want to. If you want to play some games you can, if you want to five away door prizes you can, if you want to give a discount for someone wanting to host their own party, you can do that too. The best way for parties is to buy samples. Buying loads of full size products can get pretty expensive and is not really necessary. Contact your regional manager, ours has full size bottles of all the perfumes that any of her reps are welcome to use for party demo's. A more cost affective way to have a party is to basically have a brochure type party and just make sure you have enough brochures for everyone that attends to look through. But, it is still a good idea to at least have all the perfume samples at the party so they can smell it. Most people will not buy perfume without smelling it first. Also be sure and let everyone know that no matter what they order, Avon offers a 100% money back guarantee and anything they order can be returned for any reason and they can get their money back or get credit for future purchases. But most importantly I would say, just make it fun!

Avon direct ships to anyone ordering off your eRep website online. The order you place yourself for each campaign is delivered to your home only. So in other words, if you have a family member that says, order me such & such, but they live 100 miles away from you, they must order online for themselves to get it delivered direct to them. If you order it for them, it will come to you. I have this exact situation with my mom, and my mom doesn't even own a computer but lives 5 hrs away from me, so what I did was get my hubby to open an online acct on my site and order online for her through my website and then just get my mom to mail me a check. That way it gets direct shipped to her and I still get the credit.

Your absolutley correct with this. Littering the neighborhood, peoples door steps and car windshields isnt worth much of anything. People want/need more personal contact. Everyones busy and forgets so its important for the rep of any product to keep after customers. For us selling Tupperware i would say 99% of our business is offline. Its all in the party and presentation for us. I have also found this true for past busineeses that i ran as well as the Real Time Pain Relief i am also selling. Good input!

Cars? The local ordinances around here consider that littering and fine people.
Our local Avon rep drops catalogs off at hotels and restaurants for the workers.
Makes friends with someone in every business to help pass them out.
She has quite a large following for such a small population base.
Waitresses are especially image conscious, at least in the better restaurants.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll meet people in my neighborhood and follow up with them 48 hours later to see what they want to order. What do you think the wording should be? Have you had a chance to look at the brochure? Do you have any questions about products? What would you like to order today? I'm just trying to come up with things off the top of my head. I also thought of putting a small ad in our weekly town paper. Does that sound like a good idea?

Maybe just type something up introducing yourself and state that your their local Avon Consultant and if they have any questions or would like a brochure to contact you. Then do a followup if they dont get back to you.

glopina, I always call a day or two before I order, hat way, all I have to say is... "Wanted to touch base with you and remind you that I am placing an order tomorrow night" Then that opens the door for them to think if there was anything they want to get or ask you about.

As long as there are no other ads for Avon in your paper already, I would say that is a great idea. There are people who are actually searching for someone who sells Avon. Some people love certain products so well, they will not use anything else. I have several customers who only contact me about twice a year for a dozen bottles of deoderant, LOL! Or a perfume they have been wearing the last 40 yrs! Just jump in and give it a try and you will see what works and what doesn't. I wish you much success!

Well, the first thing I was going to do was actually go door to door with brochures on a Saturday and introduce myself, I'm trying to get beyond family and friends. Then I thought I'd make the rounds again on Monday evening (when hopefully they are home) and see if they wanted to place an order. I tried Avon in the white pages of my phone book and found the numbers disconnected so that might be an option, I think that's free. Did you go door to door Julsy?

I did not go door to door, I placed goody bags on every mailbox in my neighborhood. In the bags I put one of the smaller sale brochures (not the full brochure) a beauty card (with all the Anew products on it) a perfume sample and my business card. I also put a sticky note saying that I was their new local Avon Lady and to call for full brochure. But, as I said before, I did not have phone numbers for everyone I gave a goody bag and got 2 phone calls out of the 200 bags I put out. So, I think going door to door and actually trying to meet the person face to face would be much better and get a phone number and touch base with the person a few days later. I think that would work much better.
