Thrive Learning is another Utah Internet scam. Owned by Colton Moody and staffed by Mark Rasmussen, and Zach Bradshaw, this new company supports over 20 different varieties of training, but has the same common denominator - they oversell and under-deliver.

There are several forum posts about them. Best is to check out ripoffreports.com and get the actual data for yourself.

I was scammed for over $6,000 and have been nearly 8 months working to get a refund. I learned nothing from their training and found out that I could have gotten all this data for free.

Do you homework - don't listen to the shills and the bitter complainers. Decide for yourself. See if you can find an actual set of profitable websites and ask the owner how long it took to make their money back.

Got a call about 2 hours ago from Tina at Thrive. Glad I took the time to do a little research. I want to thank all you who posted your experiences with this outfit. You saved me time, money, and heartache. I just left a message for Tina that I was not interested in their offer and to please not call me back. I should be so lucky. Thanks again

Phew....glad I came on here! Thrive Learning "found" me when I bought a $1.98 CD from Google treasure chest. Before I even got the cd, they had talked me into my credit card number....get this, for 11,350!!!!! That was this morning. I got the cd this afternoon. Came on here, called my credit card, had them REMOVE the charge and cancel the card. I have yet to reply to their agreement....Ive read here they will try to get %15? I cant find that anywhere....Should I just ignore the contract? Or send it back replying No thanks? Here the WORST WORST part! They asked me why I moved recently.....I was honest and said it was because my 15 year old son committed suicide and I needed to move. I also said I needed to make money to buy his headstone...they were SO sympathetic and now what! how DARE they!

I just found this website. How I wish I'd have found it before I turned over $15k to Thrive, not to mention the wasted money to the Tax Club. I've been taken for approx $25k. I will gladly join your class action suit. Please send me the questionnaire. I did send you an email separately. Please stay away from Thrive!!!!!

Hello!! To everyone out there commenting about Thrive and sharing there stories. I'm new to this forum. I was also scammed by Thrive, aka Momentum and Summit Group for better than $13,000. I can't beleive this company gets away with it's questionable practices. I am in the process of fighting for my money back. Anyone who is thinking about doing business with this company- STAY AWAY!!!! You will get burned. I will share my progress as I move forward. I think the best thing that could happen to this company is a huge lawsuit. Any help or advice that any of you can offer would be appreciated?

I'm sorry to read about every one's stories on this message board. Below is a link to an article written about the "coaching industry." The article mentions Thrive Learning Institute and does a pretty good job of exposing this industry for what it really is....A SCAM!

http://www.cityweekly.net/utah/article-7772-called-into-question.html

You will see, this article raises some disturbing questions. Although I don't live in Utah, I spent a few years back going to school out there. I still have several old college buddies that are sales agents in that industry. They all make great money, but I never understood how they justified what they did for a living. My former college roommate once told me that 99.99% of the people working in this industry know they are dishonest, but they justify their actions, business models, sales practices etc. because "the money is too good." He even admitted to me that companies prey on naive, inexperienced, and desperate people. I'll just say, the more I learned about the "coaching industry" the more I lost respect for these old friends.

After stumbling across the article above, I started digging around and found more out about Thrive Learning Institute, it's owners, partner companies, etc. I thought I would try to track down some personal contact info, so people could go straight to the source for a refund. Maybe if enough people call, the scammers will start to listen. So, here it is...Here's some contact information for a few of the main principals of Thrive/Summit Group/Momentum Marketing. I called a few of my old buddies in the "industry" and apparently based on reputation, these guys are scum. Based on what I read on this message board, it appears I've received accurate information.

These guys apparently all have ownership in the company and are "decision makers" according to my sources. FYI..Colton Moody and Erik Largin also are the main owners of The Summit Group (renamed "Momentum Marketing") a notorious Utah call center. I'm told they partnered with the Rasmussen brothers after they were fired from a previous coaching company with a similarly poor reputation. Not sure what they did, but apparently, it was more sketchy than just ripping people off. Whatever that means??? Anyways,

Good luck with your refunds! I'm sure everyone would love to hear your experience.

Matthew Rasmussen- 801-787-3979 (cell)
David Rasmussen- 801-735-3909 (cell)
Colton Moody- 801-310-1067 (cell)
Erik Largin- 801-492-0714 ext. 1062 (work) sorry no cell...i tried

Well, I have to say the above mentioned article about Utah's call centers is very interesting. Going thru this experience has taught me a good lesson. If there is a business opportunity or a purchase to make, do your homework first. The amount of information at our fingertips on the internet is invaluable.
On the individual company web site, everything sounds so great. Then when you look for other opinions from people who have actually used the product or tried to work that particular business, there are alot of other not so sunny stories. The internet allows all of us to invest a little time searching before making a final decision. This can save us many dollars and heart aches.
Thank you Bill Gates, Microsoft and Apple for the years of advancements so we can have a great computer in our homes and have access to such a wonderful tool as the internet. People, like in this forum, from all over the world can share their stories without knowing each other. What a fabulous outlet to have.

Yes, the internet is great, the only thing is that when you, as a newbie, buy a few programmes, the one promising more than the other you then get bombarded with emails from people, every day there is something new they want you to buy and I, personally, find it totally impossible to know which is good and which is bad. They all make claims that 'this is the real deal' all the other programmes on the market are scams, the gurus are just out to fool you, so that you don't stand a chance of making any money, they leave out essential information etc.

I managed, luckily, to say no to Thrive (although I nearly went for it and actually gave them credit card numbers, but it took a lot of effort, they tried to tell me that I had already spent money (they made out that I had to pay the 15%, although I hadn't signed their papers which were sent to me online.

I have looked at Stephen Pearce's Megacash programme, are any of you familiar with this? (and have anybody made any money?). He seems to be a genuine guy, but you never know, I suppose. They work with Procter coaching co. and I have been contacted by them as well.

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to say thankyou to JOEBLOW, to whom I am deeply indebted to for providing the most crucial link to the salt lake city weekly article "CALLED INTO QUESTION".
The information provided in this article got me a full refund!
Persistance and patience also will pay off in the end.
I wanted to give a heads up though on some details that I feel are important though in going through the motions.
First of all, you must send a complaint to the department of commerce in Utah. The department of Commerce houses the DIVISION OF CONSUMER PROTECTION, which is where your complaint will ultimtely end up.
During this process, you should receive a call from the company you purchased from(it doesn't matter which company it is), telling you that they feel really bad you are dissatisfied and are willing to offer you 1/2 your money back. ALL LIES. Remember when dealing with them that they are the best of con artists, this is what they do best.
DO NOT ACCEPT THEIR OFFER NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY. Be persistent and insist that they misled you and it is against the law. Then you may have to contact the division of consumer protection again.
Next will be an offer for 2/3 of your money back, final offer and a bunch more lies that they are doing you a favor etc, etc.
Again, do not accept, stay firm that you are entitled to a full refund, and again, if it comes to it go back to consumer protection.
ALL these companies, who have sold Thrive's program to you, have entered into an agreement with the division of consumer protection to honor FULL REFUNDS to complaining consumers or face the consequences of fines or ultimately being shut down. So it does not matter if you bought from momentum marketing, internet auction solutions, infusion media etc. They are all associated with Thrive.
Please remember-NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY to convince you that they are under no legal obligation to refund you any money-THEY LIE. Remember how you got taken in the first place??
I also think it is very important to be decently respectful of the individuals who may contact you from the division of consumer protection. They are the ones who are going to help you and I know that at this present moment, they are SWAMPED with incoming complaints and thrive has become a real thorn in their side. I feel you will get much further and get your refund quicker by letting them know that you appreciate the effort they are putting into your case.
Good luck to you all and if you are persistant....YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY BACK!!
THANKS AGAIN TO JOEBLOW.

He has done an outstanding job on this petition and i would encourage everyone to please contact him to get more info on this.

used and abused,

I'm glad my post helped, and congratulations on your refund! I'm also glad you posted about how you obtained your refund, so others can see similar results.

My guess is that the only way this industry will be cleaned up is through government intervention. That has often been the case in the past with other unscrupulous businesses, industries, etc. Your experience actually proves that to be true. There is a reason states have a division of consumer protection....to protect consumers. After I read your post, I went ahead and looked at Utah's Division of Consumer Protection to see if I could find out more about the "coaching industry", telemarketing, etc., and I came across some interesting links. I'll post them below.

1st- here is a link to the Utah Division of Consumer Protection. I hope everyone who reads this message board takes the time to explore this site...it has some great information.

http://www.consumerprotection.utah.gov/

2nd- I started researching more about telemarketing, and it appears as though many companies I've seen listed on this message board, scam.com, rip-off report, etc. as companies affiliated with Thrive, need to be registered and licensed in Utah with a special telemarketing license. These companies need to be bonded and licensed with the state, and are in violation if they aren't. Below is a link to a list of all the registered telemarketers in the state of Utah. I would advise pulling out your billing statement or your Thrive purchase contract and verifying which company "sold" you the program. If they aren't on the list, they're breaking the law and will be subject to fines, penalties, etc. REPORT THEM! You'll probably get a refund for that alone. Here's the link

http://consumerprotection.utah.gov/lists/telemarketers.pdf

3rd- If you do see the company who sold you your Thrive education, report them for violating the 3 day right of rescission laws or misleading you in their sales pitch. Try to be detailed with any earnings claims, promises, etc.. By law, telemarketing companies must fully disclose to consumers their right to a 3-day cancellation policy of a 100% refund. I've read all over the place, that most people weren't told of the 3-day right, and this is a HUGE violation. I've also seen people receiving partial refunds or being charged "stocking" or "cancellation" fees. This is illegal. It's also illegal to give any type of earnings claim in any business opportunity. My guess is that most of these scam artists are doing a lot of that. The companies will be subject to fines, penalties, etc. and you'll probably get a refund. Here's the link to file a complaint...

http://www.consumerprotection.utah.gov/complaints/index.html

4th-Here's an interesting link off the consumer protection site that lists the "Top Ten Consumer Scams" for Utah. When you click on the link, check out #4...any guess what it is??? "Coaching Services" aka "Thrive Learning Institute". I guess the state is starting to wise up. My guess is that if you file an official complaint, explaining how you've been scammed, you'll probably get some help from the state getting a refund. Here's the link...

http://www.consumerprotection.utah.gov/scams/topten.html

Anyhow...to summarize, check out the links, and complain like HELL until you get a refund. Hit these scammers where it hurts the most...THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS! My guess is that they've already spent your money, so when the state starts getting after them with fines, forced refunds, etc, they'll be in some serious trouble.

Good luck and post your results!

I work for one of the sales companies that sends clients to Thrive. I actually deal clients that want to cancel their program. Unfortunately there are quite a few of these smaller sales companies that have very questionable sales practices. In looking at these complaints most of them are from those sales floors. This makes it really hard for other sales floors that are trying to give correct information to potential clients and are trying to do the right thing.

Unfortunately when you are talking about thousands of dollars you will always have issues with clients. Some related to coaching issues others to clients directly. I had a client yesterday who was having issues with the financing company that we set him up with to provide him additional funds. He just called to have the problem fixed but since it was a recurring issue with his account for some reason I told him I would cancel it out for him so that he would not have to pay for it. He was shocked that I did that for him but in the end this motivated him to stay with the program.

At the same time I had another person I talked to yesterday wanting to cancel because he had simply changed his mind and that this was not for him and did not want to do this. I reminded him that we had entered into a business contract that could not just be casually cancelled for no real good reason. He then told me to make up a reason like "his wife had cancer or something like that". The real problem with this was that in the whole while he had been in the program he only worked at this for 1 week and could not get a hold of him for the rest of the time. I don't understand why someone who could invest so much money into something would at least not out in the effort to make it work and blames others for not getting results.

While I know that Thrive offers a real good service (I know this because we do track our success stories and whether you believe them or not there are a lot out there) there are cases where the ball is dropped and whether it's something minor or really big we try to go out of our way to fix the situation.

I just think that it is unfortunate that people think Thrive is behind everything bad on the internet when I know for a fact that they are not the ones that make the initial phone calls to clients. All Thrive does is coach the clients that they have been given to the best of their ability. Sometimes that is hampered by the blown up expectations that people come in with because of these rouge sales companies. At least on our end we monitor conversations between our reps and clients and deal with situations seriously if anything was said that was not supposed to be said.

I hope this helps out some as there are always two sides to every coin and on something like this both sides have definitely not been represented.

Thanks,

Frosco
