I am currently building my affiliate marketing website & I was hoping that It would have been finished but I had several issues when signing up to overseas affiliate programs, I have decided to concentrate on the one particular area which interest me & have found quite a few programs related to it.

My site will have 2 pages some images & 2 flash animations I have created although my site may look simple to the naked eye do you think that simple looking websites can sell your desired product & get your message across to potential customers.

Many very effective ecommerce websites are simple, it depends on how well you understand the mind of the visitor. A complicated website only causes confusion

I agree some websites I have surfed into shouldn't be on the net as they are poorly designed.

Hi Casper,

A site should be easy to navigate, easy to read, and none of the non-text elements should be too distracting. The page should load fast, especially the home page. The body background color should not cause the eyes to strain when reading the body text. Avoid using animated GIFs. Avoid excessive use of bolding, caps, and exclamation marks.

On the other hand, the design should be better than a typical personal page. You wouldn't want to throw up a site that is just a list of hyperlinks and a little descriptive text.

Simple as in straight forward, yes. Simple as in overly amateur, no.

The quality of the content is by far the most important part of the site. Visitors want quick and easy access to useful information. Build your site with that in mind.

A simple website can be very effective...the big thing is whether or not you have used effective copyrighting skills when designing your website. The ugliest website can convert, while the "prettiest" website may not convert depending on how much you understand your target market.

On the main page I am going to set companies I have signed up with in a table some companies have banners available but others don't, I may have to stick to hyperlinks only but they will be cloaked so people will only see the name of the company. As for the animation side of the site I have made sure that they will only appear when the pages first loads & not continuesly while the page is up.

I have to agree with people on that one if you have to much interactivity on your site it will distract people from the message you are trying to get across.

The short answer is: "Yes!"

Simple websites sell, and if you follow the suggestions from Newbie Shield and GetaGrip you'll be on the right path.

In my opinion, the best designed websites are those that you visit for the first time and get a feeling of deja vu. Somehow you intuitively know where to go to find what you want. Everything seems strangely familiar, as if you've been there before, but you haven't.

Achieve that, or something close to it, and you'll have a winner!

Hi Casper,
I would focus on your content as much as you can.
I have seen plain white websites with content that really relates to the reader make big money!

casper,
I don't know anything much about websites, but this one seems busy.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be focused on or what to click on.
Hopefully someone with knowledge on sites will come along and give you more insight.
Sonni
