It will definitely get some good linking going on with your site, but you won't see and explosive increase in traffic. You might see some consistent traffic over time through search engines because of it though.

A good tool that I have used is called Free Directory Submitter, and it works great! Hope this helps.

homebizoutlook:
Directory submissions does not really drive traffic, but it helps build backlinks which are necessary to get Google page rank. It's very important over the long term to get all the links you can. Paying someone to do this for you is the best way, I just paid $9 for 100 directory submission. That's a great deal!

You can find someone to hire for directory submissions at the Digital Point Forums at:

You don't really need to pay someone to do it for you. You can submit to the major directories yourself, and it's not difficult to do. Some of them will want some meta tag information, keywords, description, etc. If you aren't sure what this is or which ones to use, there are plenty of resources online. I do admit, tough, nine bucks for 100 submissions is not a bad deal. I just enjoy doing the seo and submissions myself. I like experimenting with different combinations, seeing which ones work and which ones don't. But, then, I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to this stuff. I find it fun.

To further answer your question, the process is slow, but once you get listed, build page rank, you can get a lot of traffic for free, and usually you will get people who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer.

That really depends on how much your time is worth and how much time you have on your hands. You can spend 2 hours manually submitting to 100 directories, or you can pay someone $5 or $10 to do it for you. I prefer the latter, but some people don't mind doing it themselves.

If you are going to do manual submissions, I'd suggest turning on the radio or something like that to make it more interesting - maybe even listening to an audio book or something to that effect.

I have not seen much traffic through directory submissions. I submit my website to the directories for long term backlinks. It is time consuming and I decided to pay for 400 submissions. It was not expensive and the only thing I have paid for,

Having just started out, I haven't tried directory submissions yet. I think the points made about this being good for linking are important in the longer term, so I may give it a try myself.

I think it's more just getting the internet to work against you LESS. Visibility is good, but it's not going to promise traffic, just because they know you exist.

You have to prove to the search engines that people want your content (use relevant links, work through the catch-22 of need hits to get hits...)

Does that make sense?

Directory submission is very useful for backlinks. Paying someone to submit for you can be helpful but you won't really know what quality or what PR ranking they are submitting to. Especially for such a low price. I find directory submission to be a labor of love for my sites. I normally aim to submit to a couple a week, which is pretty easy to do and builds links gradually.

I submit to link directories for generating backlinks to my website.

It is one of the ways to broadcast your website to others.

you can find a great tool at imwishlist.com

they have this directory submitter where you can use their software to fill in the raw date.

You just have to add in the directory sites and start getting links.

Go for those with high Page rank.
