    Hey everyone,

I have been a member of this forum for about a month now and absolutely love it! Everybody in here knows their stuff and offers great advice!

That being said, I have been doing internet related activities for about two years now and have kind of scattered myself thin to where i'm working on 10 different projects at the same time.

I did a little homework on "creating your own website" and decided to take up the challenge. I am a fitness guru and thought that would be my niche! I then created the website and started learning html as i went. Just looking for some insight i guess. I know i have many things going on as far as affiliates and so on. I think i should probably narrow it down to only 2 or 3....? I need to do some major re-vamping i know but maybe some see some things that i don't.

Thank you in advance for any replies... I truly am a hard-working and motivated individual who still has so much to learn and look forward to contributing all I can to this forum!!

    Hi bdkfreedom,

Not entirely sure what the question is. It looks like you may be wondering how to build a website so I'll give you some commentary on that.

Your first objectives are to learn the foundational web languages, which are HTML and CSS. Then you'll probably want to learn JAVA Script and PHP. Layout and graphic design are also part of the game.

You might check out this forum thread for a little more guidance:

How much do you make a month and how?

Thanks that I look at my post it does look unclear! Basically i set up this content rich site, learned html, have ads by adbrite, and have many affiliates. I guess i'm just asking everyone how presentable they think it looks? Possible ideas for change...?? I'm crazy about the niche, just needs some fine tuning i think...

Personally I find that your website is a little too plain.
    Not very professional.

    Hi BDK,

I think it looks nice overall. A couple tips for you:

    1. Fill out your meta description tags on each page (for SERPs)

    2. Fill out your meta keywords tags (for SERPs)

    3. On the About Us page: Change "Were" to either "We're" or "We are".

    4. I like the way your logo expresses the actual words of your site and that it's interesting but you might clean it up a little. There are some gray pixels around and inside of the text. Open it in a graphics editing program, blow it up, and clean it with a white brush or an eraser, then save it and reduce it to the desired size.

    5. Eventually, you might consider expanding your About Us page so that it's a bit more magnetic and so that it more clearly sets you apart from competitors (the one-stop-shop theme is a good start).

    6. It would be in your best interest to remove the contact email unless you don't mind getting blasted by spam and harvesters. In it's stead consider placing a contact form.

You have some nice resources for someone who is interested in holistic improvement. I think you're off to a good start, congratulations [IMG]

Thank you very much for your comments! I have read mixed reviews on the whole meta-tags issue but guess it won't hurt to add them...great idea!! I know I am nowhere near finishing this site but hope i'm headed in the right direction!

Also, not sure if Adbrite will be the way to go for my displaying ads because they just have a lot of irrelevant ads that don't really pertain to my content(probably switch to Google Adsense). As far as affiliates go, I think amazon might be one of the best to use for my type of site. I need to work on that part of the site as well! I do have a friend who is a web designer who I might just give a call and see if she can fine tune the site a little for me!

Thanks again and I am much appreciative for the advice! Every little bit helps, especially to us newbies! Hopefully you will see some changes on their real soon!

    Hi bdkfreedom,

I think your site looks sharp. Perhaps a small graphic in the header would give it more personal appeal.

One problem that I see is that the font is too small. I'm not to the stage of wearing glasses yet, but your small font is a real strain on the eyes.

Shields advice about the tags is important. Also, Adsense will give you much more targeted ads.

Keep studying and keep up the good work.

All the best for the new year,

    Hi BDK,

    You're welcome.

Some folks don't realize that there is more than one type of meta tag. What you heard (if you heard the truth) is that meta keyword tags are now ignored by Google (subject to change, so include them).

The other engines actually read them so you'll want to include at least one per page. Try not to exceed three or four when ever possible as it can be viewed as spammy.

You'll also want to include meta description tags. They describe your page. These show up under your title in SERPs and serve to aid clickthrough if a visitor finds them relevant and appealing. These are for humans.

Meta keyword tags are for SEs. Meta description tags are for potential human visitors viewing SERPs.

Be sure to use a different meta description tag on each page.
