I do not know how true this is, but I heard from a couple of people that there are a group of social bookmarking site users who will flag their competitors articles as spam, so that their articles will be removed from the site. Has anyone heard this rumor?

If this rumor is true, then it may not be wise to make your site statistics public, because the person who told me the rumor, said that these users keep a close eye on your traffic statistics to decide whether to flag your site.

If you have even a slightly popular website , you will be the target of a lot of blackhat techniques and sabotage by competitors.

Hi Capadrop,

It's sad but true. It's all a part of the game. PCwork is right, if you create a decent article or a multiple-page website, it will be the target of a lot of black hat and gray hat tactics. Unfortunately, that's the price of a high profile.

It's normal to be concerned about this and similar fears. Just go ahead and create your articles. If they get flagged, you'll be given a chance to defend, which isn't hard to do if you've done nothing wrong.

It's best to ignore these disturbing thoughts and get on with the show else the show will get on without you.

Sad reality of life - some folks just don't like to play fair. I believe though that, in cases like this, the genuine guy will come out on top not matter what. It's a crappy situation to be put in, but it's impossible to hide the fact that your site is getting high traffic - so the best you can do is focus on the content, the content, and the content the, when someone throws a wrench into your plans, take the necessary steps to untangle the gunk and get back to the content, the content, and the content. You can't worry yourself sick over these things or they'll win before they even start the sabotage.

It happens in different ways - competitors will even flag other Squidoo lenses so theirs will rank higher - really lame, but there is not a whole lot you can do about it...
