Hey guys,
I'm newly registered here at this forum, but I've been reading for awhile now. I'm really glad to finally have signed up.
Alright, so I'm in need some realistic estimates. I have a little experience with online marketing and money-making, but not in this particular area. I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy and build my first, real .com website, and I'm wondering how much the average site makes.
To start off, I've found a niche that has very little competition and a pretty decent amount of demand. My plan (if I decide to do this) is to basically review products relevant to and offer advice about a particular hobby of mine. I have been a longtime customer of a website that sells products relating to this particular niche, and I want become an affiliate. They pay around 5% commission on all their products (which range from a few dollars to several thousand). If I were to create a site, spend a lot of effort to get a top listing on Google, add an Adsense block somewhere on each page, and earn commission on products in the $50-500 range, is there any way of estimating how much the site would bring in a month? I know that's a really open-ended question, but perhaps some of you have sites similar to the one I might create. Any input is very much appreciated.
Thanks!

You really won't know how much a site brings in until you build it and get some traffic to it. You may find that you will have to tweak things to get it right.

On your other question, I would recommend learning how to build your own website, with lots of unique content, rather than buy one, as this will get you much better results.

Ugh! Almost impossible to estimate, I'd say. You say it has "decent demand" and "very little competition" but what does that really mean in numbers?

1. You'd have to combine the demand numbers of all the keywords you are going to cover.

2. Then you'd have to realistically figure how much of that traffic you are going to be able to grab.

3. Then you'd have to estimate closely about what percentage of your visitors will click on your Googe Adsense (and the value of those ads), as well as the percentage of those visitors that will convert to an affiliate sale (and the value of that sale).

4. You also have to consider your skill at preselling in your content.

The number of variables make it unlikely that anyone would be able to even semi-accurately predict the amount of income you can make from that information.

However, on the positive side, it DEFINITELY sounds like it is worth doing. Is that any consolation?

Blessings,
Angie

Hi dbaoms,

Sorry, but there's no way to make an estimate for income. As Angie pointed out, there are too many variables involved.

You can only plan as well as possible and put your plan to the test to see how it pans out.
