I have a little money I earned being a caregiver last weekend. I want to invest it in a work-at-home business. I decided if I was going to work as hard as I have been on these surveys I might as well work hard at something that is going to make me a decent income. I can keep doing the surveys but want something that "leads" me into atleast a $1,000.00 a month. Maybe far fetched but all I can do is ask and try.

Feedback welcome. I have a great pc and wireless. I have 20 years experience as an administrative assistant and I am about a 7 on a scale from 1-10 on computer savvy.

Thanks in advance, denise in Sams Valley OR

Hi Oregon,

Surveys are a waste of time. You end up working real long and hard but get paid next to nothing.

Obviously it's a waste of time. Don't trust anyone who says otherwise.

Step 1: The free 30 Day Challenge:

www.thirtydaychallenge.com

Step 2. (if you need more): Honest Riches 3.0 by Holly Mann at a one time payment of $37.

Step 3. (if you still need more): SBI at $25/mo. You can talk to HappyWife about it. I trust her when it comes to how to make money online and so can everyone.

All throughout read make money online blogs. Consider them to be your trade magazines

That's it!

Good luck,

~Newbie Shield~

Affiliate marketing is very competitive and requires a bit of money and alot of advertising and marketing. There are some people who make money doing affiliate marketing, but there are alot who do not. I would advise you to start off with something that is guaranteed to make you some extra money and then once you have gained some experience in making money online and have done some more research, then expand, so that you can have several income streams online. If you want to know more check out my signature or send me a message. Good luck

Yes, there are many good programs out there for you to choose from. You can also research One Week Marketing and My Online Income System by Kimberly Hoffman.
Both of these are affiliate marketing but if you are computer savvy then you can fly through the courses. MOIS has recently added a second course that adds to your knowledge that you will learn in the first one.
Oh yes and we can't forget Wealthy Affiliates.
Hope you find something

Hi Oregon,

I tried the survey route last year - waste of time and effort. You even have to spend up front with certain companies and they re-imburse you, some weeks upon weeks later!!

The Kimberley Hoffman MOIS system does seem a reasonable place to start, as Gridella's mentioned earlier. Good reports and easy to follow system.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Paul

I'm with gridellas on Wealthy Affiliate. Honest Riches is also a great place to start, but WA will give you a lot more sructure and is a lot more step by step oriented, plus it offers much better support.

The core knowledge most people do not get from these
internet marketing things is actually best learned at the
library - it's called "Direct Response Marketing" - actually
many of the better books on it get ripped-off from libraries
but you can start there.

Suggested: Claude C. Hopkins, John Caples, Victor O. Schwab,
Eugene Shwartz, Jeffrey Lant (his books are good but his online
program is not something I recommend).

My view is that there are many ways to make some money, but it gets hard to make a lot. Everyone is different, so not every venture will suit everyone.

My advice is to find something you are comfortable with, and that does not cost you anything, or very little. When you find something that is promising, persevere with it, and do not get distracted by other 'offers'.

Once you start making a few dollars, makeing the next few is easier.

Hope this helps

thank you charlie, good advice. I am feeling pretty desparate, and a little money won't do me much good. But I have to start somewhere. So I keep doing the surveys, and now I started looking into the Marketing thing. That 30 day deal has to be a sideline for me though, do a little each day but also keep an eye out for any way to make a few dollars now. I clean one house so far, maybe lead to more, and I am looking for anything I can do either in an office or wash dishes in a resteraunt even. Im blessed to have a place where I work off my rent by caretaking property and pets but no income. And thank God for free internet!!! But I believe if I just keep at it, I will come upon something I can earn a decent income per month, 1,000 take home would suit me fine although I wouldn't turn down more

Hi Denise,

I'm Angie, aka Happywife . I've been off the forum for a few days or so (in the process of packing up our house), but it's good to be back and to meet you.

You've already been offered sound advice, but I'll tell you a little bit about me and how I got started, etc., too.

My hubby and I are American but are serving as missionaries in Australia. I started looking for a way to simply make some extra spending money online a little over 2 years ago while minding our church book shop.

I really had no internet experience (certainly NOT a 7 out of 10 like you) but I'm a quick learner usually when I find a good set of instructions that 'click' with me.

I tried the paid survey and paid to read emails thing - it was just too frustrating for words. Enough said!

I signed up for a variety of different money making opportunities, but almost always went for the refund once I received the materials and found out it was NOT what they claimed. (I do hate wasting time and money).

Finally I ran across a free Affiliate Masters Course put out by Sitesell and when I read that, it just clicked. I knew that I wanted to try affiliate marketing by building a niche topic website. (I had no idea what subject I'd build it around, but the whole concept made such good sense and it DIDN'T claim to be get rich quick, but work hard and build a solid business). That appealed to me on several levels.

Anyway, the free course is a great marketing tool to introduce people to SiteBuildIt (or SBI) which is a package deal that enables you to more simply accomplish what they just described in the free course. Hubby gave me the green light to give it a try and I haven't looked back.

The cost for the first year for me was $299. After using SBI's brainstorming tools, etc., I ended up building my first site chocolate-candy-mall.com. It was slow getting the income ball rolling and I really only made about $1500 the first year.

Once the ball started rolling, though, it has continued to improve with a lot less effort. For several months now, that site has been bringing me in about $1000 per month (that magical number you are shooting for). That's such a huge blessing to us and way more than I initially anticipated.

Since learning the entire site building and business building process with SBI, I have continued to add to my online business by creating 3 additional sites. (I'm a little bit addicted) They are all in different stages of growth and progress, but should eventually all "beat" my chocolate site because of the niche topics and income potential.

I've said all that to say this - although the free methods of learning are good if you absolutely can't afford anything up front, but it is my personal opinion that you will get farther ahead faster if you are able to commit to and focus on a solid business building program and package like SBI.

You mentioned that you received some money from being a caregiver recently (blessings on you for doing such an important job), if it is enough to get you started with SBI, I think it is an investment you won't regret.

If you still need to make some money quickly to help make ends meet until your website starts generating income, you can try to do that through performing simple tasks for Amazon's Mechanical Turk or writing a few articles per day for oDesk.com or something like that.

You may even be able to just grab some simple recipes from my chocolate site (maybe chocolate covered pretzel rods) and make up some goodies each week to take to local businesses.

It's amazing what people will pay for a quick and yummy treat. You could probably easily get $1 each for a nice looking chocolate covered pretzel rod (you could dip it in caramel first) or even just cupcakes or large cookies.

It may take a bit of "nerve" to approach the companies, but if you lead with a container of goodies that are attractively presented, they'll find it hard to say no.

That would at least tide you over a bit until you are able to get your online business earning for you.

Well, that's my 2 cents worth. I hope some part of my story will encourage and help you to find a way to achieve your goals.

Blessings,
Angie

Thank you so much Angie, I appreciate all the time you took to reply and tell your story. Praise God for blessing you that way I look forward to taking a look at your webpage(s)and also, I will look into the other "money-making" ideas you mentioned. Taking treats to companies sounds wonderfully fun because I do like to bake things but wouldn't I have to have some sort of food permit? Pretty sure I would but I will check.

Thank you again Angie

Good question, Denise. I don't know for sure so, as you say, you can check. I would think that if you were going to do it as an official long term business that you WOULD need some type of food permit, but I wonder if it's necessary for just a short term quick money maker?

I'm thinking of bake sales and such that I've been a part of in the past. I don't remember anyone mentioning having to get a food permit - but I may have just been oblivious to it. Of course, rules and regulations may have changed or different rules may apply to different areas.

Personally, I'd probably just give it a try and wait until someone questions me about it. If they say a permit's necessary, then you can decide whether you want to take that step or give up the idea. At least by then you may have an idea if it is going to be something that your local businesses are interested in before you have to pay/comply.

Blessings,
Angie

Hi All,

just to keep you updated I am now starting to read and study the Affiliate Master Course. I also have an interview to be a full-time caregiver but for several different clients, through an agency. This is something I enjoy but I want something to do from home so I will pursue the Affiliate Marketing. Ever since I saw Happywife's Chocolate Site I am soooooooooooo into Affiliate Marketing. But how am I going to find anything that people like as well as chocolate????? LOLLLLLLL!!! You go Angie

Thank you all, and I will stay closeby as I know I will have questions along the way Im also going to keep on doing the few surveys I do qualify for and I think that the Amazon Mechanical Turk is going to be of interest for me too

Thanks, Denise! Believe it or not, chocolate candy is NOT the most profitable of niches (though I'm still glad I chose it). There are so many things that people look for online.

It doesn't have to be something they love, it could be something they NEED. People purchase for different reasons. You just have to find a subject that interests YOU and then find an angle that appeals to the masses.

As you go through the Affiliate Masters course, it will explain it more and give you ideas of how to go about it. Have fun!

I'm praying your interview goes well, too!
Blessings,
Angie

I neeeeeeeeeeeed chocolate, doesn't everyone??

I hear you Angie I could hardly sleep lastnight for all the ideas that might be a "niche" for me Thank you so much for the prayers. All I want to do is work on my computer but the bills gotta be paid and now that I am learning so many ways to make money here and there on line, I will be able to save up for my first site! I admit I got caught up in a couple of the "get rich quick" advertisements but I am grateful I "didn't" have the money to buy in. That was a few years ago now. It's only lately I have been truly researching the different info on "work at home" jobs/biz.

I love this forum and people are truly kind and helpful. Thank you to all, again Im off to get ready for my interview. That's another thing, no matter the hours they might hire me for, I can work online anytime of day Yeehawwwwwwwwww!!!

See you soon Angie,

Denise,

The feeling of desperation and the urgency to make some decent money
is a tight rope to walk. You must proceed carefully and thoughtfully, else
you could find yourself making premature decisions.

I guess you're right. There are some days when I NEED chocolate more than others!

Hope the interview went well. Hermas is right about not allowing your enthusiasm to override your good sense. Having chatted with you for a bit, I don't think you are in danger of that at the moment, but it's a good cautionary word for all those who are anxious and excited to get started.

There are too many "shiny" things online that tempt us to dive in head first without due consideration to how shallow the water may be. Checking something out thoroughly in order to make an educated decision is wise and will stand you in good stead for the long term.

Having said that, don't lose the bubbly enthusiasm!
Blessings,
Angie

You've got $1000. You can put that to good use, but you want to put it with the best place and the best tools.

To Be honest with you, that can go quickly if it's just thrown around in the wrong places. I've spent close to 5 figures.

There are many strategies to making money online for either affiliate marketing or network marketing (MLM).

My advice is to do 3 things: (1) Pick a Topic You'd Be interested in Promoting. Make sure it has a competitive market. (2) BUILD A LIST. Business is about relationships. (3) Get traffic to your site (by far the hardest task to do on the internet).

When you have a list of people interested in what you've got to say, you build a relationship with them, and then you can promote any products they might be interested in.

These three things is what it's eventually going to boil down to for you.
