I know my new website name!! I just know it is the ONE but I don't know how to secure it??? Im afraid someone else will "get" the name if I don't "register" it or whatever you have to do to get it!!! Im going to go with SBI but I don't have the 299.00. Can I start my website with what I can afford per month, then go with SBI or what??? Anybody out there this a.m.???

thanks so much, denise

I don't use SBI but if you want to secure a domain name then go to a hosting site ( I use doteasy.com) and you can enter your domain name there and see if it's available and register it as yours for 1,2 or 3 years etc.

Hi Denise

Like biggles, I don't use SBI either. As for the domain name, you can register one for less than $10 a year.

I use namecheap to register my domain. Google for "namecheap coupon code" and you can register a .com domain for $7.95 per year (for first year only).

Hope it helps.

Dont worry denise. Nobody would use your domain name . If you want to check about the transfer of your account from any company to SBI then it is possible, dont have to worry about that. Check with Angie before you go ahead as she is the one familiar with SBI

Oh you guys are wonderful!!! One problem so far, I did find domain.com, I think thats it, and I typed in my "idea" and they said both were used already, registered. I went to the .com one as well as the .ws one and neither are anything like what mine is about? Is there anyway to get the name if it's about something else and one was in Samoa! Does that negate whether or not I can have it registered in US???

Thank you thank you both!!!!!!!!! denise

angie is fast asleep by now "down under" lol!! I can't talk to her. But, I want to get my name registered asap and SBI wants money now to let you do that. I am not waiting if I feel I am to move on this now. Angie will understand that. And also, if I decide to work with SBI when I do have the cash, I can re-register with them. I checked it out on their site(I mean transfer my domain)

Hi Biggles and Gary, again I wanted to tell you both that I best go with the least expensive site. 10 dollars or under I can afford right now. I can upgrade as I become independently wealthy, LOLLLLLLLLLLL!! Hey, I can dream right

Hi Denise,

I hope you got yourself sorted out. Yes, you can transfer a domain to SBI, but it's a bit of a pain to do, from what I understand. I haven't done it myself.

Apparently, the process can be quite lengthy waiting for the hosting company you use to release it and then getting it transferred. It IS do-able though if you find it necessary at some point.

Even though the specific name you wanted is taken, there are ways to find other variations or just adding a word, etc.

Since you signed up to SBI's 5P Affiliate Program you can use their SearchIt Tool. (Actually, you don't have to be an affiliate to use the free version).

You'll find it useful for all kinds of research. It's a marvelous little tool! Anyway, open SearchIt and then use the dropdown menu to find the "domain name" category in box 1. Then choose one of the options in box 2.

Basically, just follow instructions and you'll see how it works.

Believe it or not, some of the domain name sites monitor your searches for an available domain name. If you don't purchase it on the spot, they grab it up for several days and offer it at a much higher price - bit nasty practice, I think.

Anyway, the ones in SearchIt are safe from that practice so you can investigate and play around to your heart's content.

Hope you find a domain name you love even better!

Blessings,
Angie

Denise,

If you are just starting out I would go to godaddy.com and purchase the domain (usually 9.99) and then I would make a blog or squidoo (for free) and then forward the domain to the blog or squidoo. That is a way to start without spending too much money.

Hope that helps.

Becky

Denise,

I forgot to mention that if you ARE just planning on using a free web service and not paid hosting and then redirect your domain name to it, you can use NameParkIt (access it through the 5P club) to purchase your domain for $10 and then redirect it to your webiste.

You can also create as many subdomains as you like sending them to your free website, squidoo, or wherever.

It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish as to which route you should take. Have fun!

Blessings,
Angie
