As a long term network marketer, I am always amazed at the number of people who join get rich quick schemes or the latest shiny new business that promises easy money.
Companies with names similar to "2x2" or "4x4" or "EZ this and that", and Instant Wealth Creator, and on and on, never last! Other concepts that fail on a regular basis are social networking sites that promise to pay you for doing what you love doing anyway, and sites that have nothing to sell but e-books or other digital downloads. Criticize me if you wish but I've seen these types of companies spring up like mushrooms and then fail, again and again.
You don't have to fall for the trap! There are hundreds of legitimate, profitable, proven companies out there selling honest to goodness real products! They've been around for years and have thousands of happy distributors, so why fool around with the scams?
Save your money, folks! Unless you've got cash to burn, do some solid research and sign up with a real company, not an internet illusion.
There is no easy money out there! If anyone promises you that, run! Income requires effort. There's no avoiding it.

Hi Tim,
I agree that making money online requires effort and that there are scams out there.
However, I also know that there are other ways of making money online that don't involve becoming a "distributor".
Affiliate marketing comes to mind as do several other ways.
I feel that it's best to study online marketing, develop a well-rounded skill set, and to create your own site.
Besides, being a distributor means that you have to follow "their" rules and sell "their" products. It almost makes you feel like you're working for someone else. Not very appealing.
I'd much rather call my own shots and have full flexibility with what I do and what I sell.

I agree with you but you're talking about going in a different direction than the scams and related businesses I was referring to.
But with affiliate programs or your own products, you don't get the advantage of exponential growth like you can potentially have in network marketing. With network marketing, once you build your organization, you can take time off and still get paid, but with affiliate sales or your own product sales, as soon as you stop working, your income stops as well. So that' s something to consider.
But again, I was referring to all those flashy, and sometimes not so flashy, websites promising you can retire in less than a year just by doing (fill in the blank), whether it's getting paid to read emails, gifting, get paid to click, things allegedly tied to Twitter or Facebook that claim to generate income, peddling ebooks, etc.

People will always be attracted to the get-rich-quick lure and the latest shiny new opportunity that promises easy money. The promoters of these types of businesses are aware of that fact, that's why they target that particular market.
They know how to craft glitzy, outlandish advertising to appeal to the gullible, greedy, gambler, who is usually more desperate than disciplined. By the time these people know what hit them, the operators have closed up shop and moved on to snag new victims elsewhere under a different guise.

Business failures occur all the time in every industry, and for many of the same reasons: mismanagement, under capitalization, poor business model, greed, outright fraud... the list goes on.
But there's another side to that coin.
Not every business that falls into the categories you mentioned is necessarily a scam. I know several reputable marketers who are earning healthy incomes selling e-books and other digital downloads.
I think much of the responsibility lies with the misguided, disillusioned "victims" themselves. They truly believe and expect they can get something for nothing. I call them "internet pigeons" because they are constantly looking for the easy way out and chasing after crumbs from handouts.
Sadly, they have no clue that "income requires effort" and "there's no avoiding it."

Yep, that's how the real world is - "quick and easy" sells, but as many have discovered, making money online requires a lot of effort and hard work. If you are looking for quick and easy, the only thing you are going to accomplish is throwing your money away very quickly...

Yes save your money, avoid obvious pyramid schemes.
Unless you are the one starting it, have a fall guy and are not afraid of spending a couple of years behind bars. (This is a joke, just incase you thought I was serious)

Depends.... once your stuff is out there, it can float for a long time - even years, I have made affiliate sales off things I did months ago...stuff I had tossed aside as a waste of time...
Having done both network marketing and affiliate marketing now, I believe there is not that much difference.
With both methods, it takes a lot of time and effort in the beginning.... and then it takes maintenance... with mlm type businesses, you can never truly stop and expect your income to stay the same or keep growing.
Even the experts will tell you, that you need to stay active.
The idea of working hard for several years and then kicking back and have money rolling in is an illusion.... and the proof is in the fact that most of the successful network marketers NEVER QUIT.

Apart from having a healthy mindset & a positive outlook, you have to tell the world about your chosen business & never stop doing that.
You have to ensure that your involved in a market, were there's a demand for your products & services.
You have to constantly update & stay fresh with your business & be prepared to move with the times.
Try to stay ahead of the competition & always look at what the marketplace is doing (what's popular today, may not be tomorrow).
Finally the main incentive is if you make this work, it can be the best job in the world & you have to stay disciplined 7 put in the hours to make it work.
Why be a servant to something, when you can be it's master !

With affiliate marketing it does not stop when you quit working, the articles are still there, the sites are still there and they make sales while you are asleep. I just came home from a week vacation at the beach and there was money sitting in my clickbank account. Now that is nice.
I agree with the pyramid thing and the flashy offers. Got caught up in a few in the beginning but learned pretty quickly that was not the way to go. I had to work and nothing good comes easy.
