I think blogging is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get started. If you can use a keyboard, you can blog. No site fees, no domain registration. Start writing about something you like and

I'm serioulsy considering starting a daily blog, to help others with my knowledge, but also to add content to my site and to improve traffic.
Do I need to get started with a few articles I can design on word? has anyone got suggestions for me please. I'm sure it would look funny, if I got a blog page, but only one article. Or is this how you experienced bloggers got started?
Another thingy I can't get my head around is how do I add RSS feeds to my website. I subscribed to feedburner and know how to get the code, but not sure whether I just have to paste this into my html on the site? Besides this, do I need to do the same with other RSS out there?( glitterati, etc)
I'm a self taught internet fanatic and am still learning but my aim is to be an internet guru one day so I can help others learn
I appreciate any feedback, suggestions and help, the more, the merrier cheers

Hello cyberchick. All blogs started with one article But for your blog to be popular you'll need to update it frequently say once every 2-3 days or can be even a week. To be frank it doesn't matter how often you update but the quality of information you share determines the success of your blog. OK, if you intend to supplement your existing website with a blog, then you need not update that often.

Content managment software and blogs automatically create RSS feeds for your website. However, for static websites, you need to do the job of creating and updating RSS feeds yourself. Here's a good software that'll create the RSS feeds for your website:
http://www.softwaregarden.com/products/listgarden/

Please note that the solution is not automated and you'll have to update your feed as and when you add fresh content to your site.

Regarding FeedBurner, once you sign in, just provide the RSS feed url of your website http://www.yourwebsite.com/rss.xml. It'll then return a FeedBurner address: http://feeds.feedburner.com/YourChosenFeedName

This is the address you'll be listing on your site for people to access your RSS feeds.

Hi there,

As for your blog. starting with one article at a time is the way most of us start, you could also make a mix between articles of your own and those of others as long as you keep the resource box included.

Looking at placing an RSS feed on your web site, I assume you would like to have this for automatically refreshing content on your web site?

To achieve this you could go to http://www.feeddigest.com and signup and create your first feed. You can than simply copy the code as provided in your control panel and place this on your web page where you would like the feed to appear.

There are several options to choose from but if you would like the search engines to be able to read your feed you need to copy the php version since this transforms automatically into text which the search engines can digest.

Keep in mind, your web page either has to have the extension index.php or you should copy this line:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .html

into your htaccess file for the feed to show up within a page with html extension.

Hope this helps.

Harrold

For blogs , popularity depends on the content . There are a number of blog directories, you can submit your blog for free.

I'm learning so much every day and my biz friends call me the "expert"
Funny really, since you guys are and I'm still learning so much every day. But I suppose there are different stages and we all move on at pur own paces. I have added some articles and some of others already to my blog, so it is slowly taking shape....

Yes I have been called an expert many times in recent history. However I mainly surf cyberspace for new and interesting facts to which I share with others. It is in this sharing with others that I am becoming known as an expert no matter how ignorant I claim to be.

Popularity of blog does not depend on quantity of articles, it depends on quality of contents. Nowadays, some popular theme for blogs are, weightloss, dating and relationship, jokes, sexual relationship, wedding information. But, you should be careful about the content.

When I started blogging I just jumped in. With more than a year's worth of experience now, I would have done it differently (although it has turned out just fine).

Basically, PLAN first. What's your blog going to be about? Can you say it in one sentence?

Once you have that purpose statement, go to the keyword sites and generate a list of keywords you want to win (SEO). Design some articles around those keywords, and write them (or get them written).

Lastly, fill your blog in with some content before you launch. Those first couple of weeks are important, and no-one bookmarks or sticks around an empty blog, so it's good to have content there from the get-go.

i guess i am lucky.
when i first started to blog, i just placed articles on my blog on a weekly basic.

After 3 months later, i got to know someone who is an expert on blogging. After reading, i do some keyword research and do my articles using the keywords.

now my blog is getting some traffic.

I just started a hosted WordPress blog. It was frankly a real pain to get everything set-up and get the plug-ins working. I made one post and now I have writer's block! I had a vague idea that I would write about ways to live a self-sufficient life - growning your own food, building your own house, ways to save money or not spend money. I thought I would write from the heart and not worry about monitization. I guess I am so worried about finances right now that its hard to focus or find the energy I need go continue. Y'all pray for me.
