I started a work at home business three months ago with a wellness company and I am truely happy. I am making money and doing well, but I know i could do better if I knew how to better utilize the internet. My mentors are wonderful, but they mostly use paid leads and banner ad co-ops. I'd like to keep my money, not spend it on advertising. I know I may have to spend some, but I would like to keep the number small. Here's a little info on what I have to offer, NOT as an ad, but so you can better help me by understanding what I do. The company i work with has wellness product ranging from cleaning & laundry supplies to bath & body and of corse weight loss/management and vitamins. All of these products are offered at wholesale prices, so they cost less the Wal-mart and such, and yes, they do work as well or better, I use them and love them. I do not sell the products, I simply refer customers and set up there accounts, they then order an pay the company directly and I get a commission. I also help other people do what I do. This team has a great support line, but most of them advertise in other ways, and I want to try this. (If the moderator need to remove any of this because it sounds like an ad, please jus remove the discription of what I do, I really do want the advice.)
Here's how I currently adverstise:
Talking with people I already know who may be interested, pamphlets anywhere I'm allowed, car magnet, business card, purchasing leads, ad in the local newpapers and local section of monster.com, some ads I place individually on websites & forums where it is allowed, google AdWords site-specific ads on some WAH sites and some parenting sites.
I see a lot of posts about something Joe and something Lance (proving my ignorance here, I'm sure) but I don't have any idea about what they are about. I am not looking for a new WAH oppertunity, I am looking for an affordable way to get people to go to my website.
Thank you for any help you can give me!

If you are looking for some inexpensive ways to get people to your website, I'd consider article marketing, forums, and online classifieds. You can also consider pay per click advertising, but it isn't free...and there is also a huge learning curve!

It seems like you are doing all the things that are low cost. You will learn and fiddle with Google as you go along....make sure you use Melaleuca as a key word, even though you can't put it in the ad itself, to get targeted clicks.

You can use the company name on boards like this, you just can't use the name when you advertise.

Go to work at home boards like this one and search for marketing ideas and you will find more.

Don't forget myspace. I am a member of 2 Melaleuca groups on myspace, but I do not find them very helpful. I have not searched in awhile, there may be more now. Qne is strictly for product experiences which is pretty cool. There are 2 pretty popular yahoo Melaleuca groups but they mostly work purchased leads like you said.

I have seen people's myspace pages where they have the company name all over it; it is a personal web page but I don't think they are supposed to be doing that.

On my page I mention Mela in the context of what I do, I'm probably not even supposed to do that.

Also YouTube if you're not shy about making a short video to put up there, many people are doing that although I have not. (I don't actively build Mela anymore.)

There is also a business oriented, grown up myspace type of site a about to launch called Ojeez which sounds interesting. There is also Direct Matches and Ryze.

I hope this helps. To see myspace go to myspace then dot com of course then slash beckieweaver. To see my business one it's the site dot com then slash destinationyours.

Please come back and tell us how things go for you! And i just got those mint ice Access Bars--they are really good! And the Naturals shampoo-nothing better!!

Most of the recomendations are great guys!

One way some people to incluid myself is to actually make videos and create a myspace/tagged etc. account (there are more out there as well)

For the videos you can make commercials in youtube/IFilm/AOL etc etc.

All these are free money making machines. You will be exposed to many people Once you get the hang of it and once people start looking at your videos and start talking to people in myspace etc.

Talking and interacting with people is a good cheap or free method.

Good Luck

I am also using free advertising methods for my website.

- blogging
- write articles and submit to article directories
- submit links to link directories
- write posts in forums

Wish you luck

Those free classified sites are totally useless & it's not only me who says this, There is so much garbage on these free sites that honest business are being squeezed out & they are finding it difficult to actually make a decent income. If you can find a good site where you can get e-mail leads that's another good way you can get your name out there & use your businesses in sigs when you have to send out e-mails.

Have to be careful with those lead companies. Some are just scams.

Just my 2 cents

Article marketing is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site. Then you should start looking at where the most people visit every day. Youtube, myspace, craigslist, etc. Get your site in front of as many people as possible and you'll see results.

you might also consider...

Squidoo
Hubpages, (Be low on hype and advertising, high on content)
USFree ads - requires a 9 dollar a month fee for the primo
Ezine Articles, (read and follow the rules!)
Searchwarp, (ditto)

These are all sites where you can post articles for free with links in your author's box to your site. Except for USFreeAds which is an ad posting site. If you are interested just google the names.
