Hi, my name is Louise and I'm new around here!
I am new to all of this, so am needing some good advice if possible. I have been asked through someone I know, to become an affiliate for someone's new site. He is selling replica watches. Real good looking things, how does a Rolex sound to you for $299!? Well, kind of a Rolex!
Anyway, so I am really new to this and wanted some hints as to the best place to start off. This is really just me playing around to start with and hopefully earning a little money every month to add to savings.
I was hoping to start this off without spending any money on this, and we'll see how it goes!
So, where is a good place to start!?
I have so far collected a list of replica/watch forums, which I could do some postings in, perhaps acting as a customer that bought a watch from the website. I doubt it will bring much though.
I do have basic web building skills, so perhaps I could so something there, but I am unsure of the kind of site I could build.
Also, should I bother with this at all!? Maybe I should go for something with a bigger market, like online casinos or something? Honesty is the best policy please!
As you see, I am VERY new to this, and really want to learn, but you have to start somewhere don't you!?
Any advice is REALLY appreciated.

Hi Louise,
The key to success in affiliate marketing is following your interests and passions. Are you passionate / do you have strong knowledge about watches? If you do - go for it.
There are people out there who make money as affiliates selling all sorts of products or services. There is an affiliate program to match interests of nearly everyone. I promote dating services. The reason? I found my fiance through online dating service. I can't shut up about it anyway, so why shouldn't I promote it 
The reason why you should promote something you're passionate about is because it gives you strength when things get a bit difficult. It takes time to build a strong affiliate business that brings hundreds of dollars a day. Until then you need to keep going. And nothing will keep you as motivated as the ability to follow your true interests.

I do agree wholeheartedly with Katharina. You should choose something that really interests you. It isn't necessary, but it sure is more fun. As you can see in my signature, I built my first site around chocolate candy - one of my vices. Of course, I don't necessarily recommend you spend hours and hours writing about something you are trying to cut back on - ha ha.
That chocolate candy site is completely an affiliate site at this point along with some google advertising. I don't sell my own products. I may some day - that is always an option to add down the road.
I had ZERO experience and am tickled pink with what I have accomplished this year. My second site (the insurance one) is brand new. I just started it last week and it is still in the building stages. But now that I have a better understanding of the process, it is a lot easier the second time around - or so I hope.
You said you have some website experience. That is a plus, but you need more than just a site, you need to know how to build a site that will automatically draw traffic from the search engines. That is very important.

I think the best thing to do when starting out is look for niche markets with little or no competition.

Obviously the less competition, the better, but it is more than just that. You need to be sure there is a decent amount of demand. Building a good quality site is time consuming. If there are only a couple hundred people searching for your niche topic per month, it doesn't matter if you are the only one out there. Unless your product or service is "high end" and going to net you a large profit per sale or action, you need a fair amount of visitors each month to find you.
Well, that is just my opinion, I suppose. To each his own.

Yes, I agree, you have check the demand also . If very few people are interested in your niche, you will make little money.
