What exactly are affiliate programs? I've tried googling them but all I get is a bunch of people trying to sell me them and I dont know exactly what they are. Are they the "get paid to get someone else to click on a site"type deal, and if they are how exactly does that kind of system work?
Also, I want to know if the traditional "get rich quick" programs still work out there. What ever happend to the sell a web site that sells a web site deals are those still around? Please let me know the best stratigies for making money online im newer than spotless white shoes at this help me out.

Slow down a bit. There is no such thing as a get rich quick scheme. That's a twisted fabrication.
Affiliate programs are the virtual equivalent of a salesman's commission. You create a pre sell site that drives traffic to to someone's sell site. If the traffic you drive to that site takes a certain action, you get a commission.
Usually the action is to buy something from the sell site. Sometimes it may be signing up for a news letter or something else. Each affiliate program is different. The commissions vary from one program to the next.
You need to learn the basics well before you try any of this. It takes a few months of hard study before you can even launch a money making site. Then it takes six or more months after that to make money. This is if you want to do things that will last.
Sure, there are exceptions. There are some free programs that are already set up to make money. But even those take at least three to four months to see any cash. There is also quite a bit of good free info out there. You will have to do the footwork yourself. No one is going to give it to you step by step.
Get the education first. Don't make any desparate moves. Keep your day job for now.

Put simply, an affiliate program is a program that allows you to sell a product for someone else and get a commission from your sales.
It's great if you don't have a product of your own but want to make some cash.

You've just been given two very great answers. I guess google doesn't have all the right answers afterall
Like ssamekul said this is a great site to see what's out there as everyone here is actually working with something.
keep in mind there are no get rich schemes out there, the only people who get rich on those type of dealsare the people selling you the idea of getting rich quick... you can of course take the same route and become immoral and sell garbage...or you can heed soe advice, ad do a little research into the many legitimate opportunities and then make a choice that best suits you.

You can make a lot of money with affiliate programs, but as stated above, don't plan on getting rich quick. It can be a real challenge to market affiliate products, but the rewards are great once you have learned how to market them.
