Hello,

I have a couple of quick questions for clickbank affiliates.

#1 How do you choose the product that has the best conversion rate? the whole thing about 'gravity' and all that confuses me. Can someone explain in simple terms.

#2 how do you prevent affiliate theft, it seems impossible to me. All a person has to do is remove your link, or even insert his own link. How to prevent this?

ClickBank affiliates, please share your experiences.

Or would it be better to promote the clickbank mall, which contains all ebooks and stuff. the downside is, it won't be targeted, but the good thing is, it contains so many books any purchase would lead to a commission.

Would like your opinion on this.

If you purchase Honest Riches - Holly Mann, you get free cloaking software. This should go a long ways in helping prevent affiliate ID theft.

You can create one website that promotes 1-3 clickbank products and one the promotes the mall (catalog). You can also add some ad revenue programs to that to increase monetization.

Here is the ClickBank FAQ page:

Tinyurl shortens a link (see my sig below for an example) and lets you create different text in the hyperlink. It's not the same as cloaking since the actual URL still shows up in the status bar.

You would want to actually cloak your affiliate links when ever possible so that nothing at all shows up.

#1 I only ever choose a product in the top ten of any category. These are the proven 'converters'. I am not interested in spending my cash trying out a product which is not yet a proven converter - those in the top 10 of any category are there for a reason - they work! It's also important to factor in the refund rate - you may find a fantastic converter but then find out that refunds are 20%+ which wipes your profitability out. Check out this Clickbank refund calculator: http://cbhelper.com/refund-calculator.html - it explains clearly how to use it. Generally anything above 10% (even if it's in the top ten) I would steer clear of.

#2 In 4 years as a f/t affiliate I have never worried or had reason to worry about commission theft. Whilst I appreciate it may be a very real issue, it's never been a concern to me. I guess if you are trying to sell a web or affiliate related product to those who are 'savvy' about hoplinks, then some sort of cloaking is probably in order but the again if they are 'savvy' they can just go and use their own hoplink after clearing their cookies anyway and there's nothing you can do about that really.

Newbie Shields,

F/t is "full time" , p/t is "part time".

Manowar,

Gravity is the popularity of a product and relates to the number of affiliates that product has. A gravity of 3 is low and a gravity of 100+ is a very success product with alot of affiliates. Some of the more popular affiliate marketing systems say to look for products that have a gravity of 50+.

Biggles brought up a great point about the refund rate. Make sure its low or you'll make sales and see them go poof with refunds.

To your success,

Michael

#1 Thanks very much, but do you send visitors directly to the main website, or do you prepare a landing page?

#2 Just curious...how much do you make approximately?

#3 Do you always sell home business related products?

#1 Thanks, is there a site or tool with which you can find this?

#2 Gravity relates to affiliates, but how to find conversion rates for certain clickbank products? Is there any tool for this?

I don't link directly, I have websites with many content pages, site maps, earning disclaimers, privacy statements etc etc. - I also sell anti-virus software and I' just experimenting with selling holidays (vacations) here in the UK.

I don't think a conversion tool is possible but as I said earlier, a products position in the marketplace is based on it's sales so the marketplace position is in itself, an 'indicator' of the products ability to convert.

As to my earnings: about $1500-$2000 per 2 week pay period with Clickbank and about $1200 a month from Google adsense and other third party advertising on my sites.

Thanx, I should have gathered that f/t means full time.

By the way, I'm not related to Brooke Shields...there's no "s" on the end of my handle.

It's "Newbie Shield"

PS. By the way, tinyURL will disguise your link. That is different from link cloaking in that link cloaking will literally make your link invisible. If you actually cloak it, it will not even show up on your browser's status bar when you do a mouse-over.

When we search clickbank market place in terms of popularity, we get top ten, so does that mean they're in that particular order, that is, the one that shows up first is the best converting etc.

Second, suppose a person clicks through our affiliate link, but makes a purchase a week later through the MAIN SITE, not through our affiliate link, will we still make a commission?

Hi manowar,

1. The marketplace ranking i believe, is based on sales volume and therefore generally represents the 'conversion ability' of a product also, you should also consider the quality of the vendors website, the value to the customer of the product, the gravity (ie. number of affiliates promoting) earnings per sale etc.

2. Purchases made a week later will still be credited to you as the cookie has already been set (the exception being if they click on another affiliates hoplink before making a final purchase in which case, the final affiliate gets the comission.)

Hey biggles,

How long have you been working with Clickbank? Is it worth investing my time to advertise some off their best products?

Thanks for any info.

Hi netbiz

I have been with Clickbank since about september 2004. Yes it is worth investing your time to promote their products but concentrate on one product and keep your ad campaign small otherwise you can get seriously burned financially. I would say that you might have to try several products before finding a 'winner' that converts for you.

It is a case of 'speculate to accumulate' - be prepared to lose money initially but when you find the winning formula your profits will virtually run on 'autopilot'.
It's all about testing - testing products - testing marketing methods that work and if going down the ppc route - testing keywords - testing ads etc.

It's not easy (there is no easy route to making money on the web or otherwise) but definately possible, I'm living proof along with thousands of others probably doing a lot better than me!

I use the free service at Clickbank Trends:

www.cbtrends.com

to view their graphs, new products, etc.

Great tool and it's free!
