Hello American Friends

I need some feedback from you on certain qs I have on cameras. Normally, how much would you (or your folks, for that matter) be willing to pay for a good brand like canon, nikon etc.? Do you or your friends or people in family buy them, spending $500-1000 due to its great brand name, or would you rather settle for cheaper rates, opting for lesser known brands?

I hope Americans on this forum can answer after careful consideration, perhaps you can also talk to your friends and family about it. Pl don't give an answer based on your speculation or any other flimsy idea. I'd like to know the reality as it is, not based on assumptions. So I'd appreciate if you could take the time, ask some people around you, and let me know of the buying trend over there, like how much they're willing to spend on popular cameras like canon, nikon etc.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warmly,
Suresh

I'd pay less than $500. The price of electronics has come down so much that paying more than $500 for a camera just isn't necessary.

I would only be willing to pay from $200 - $300. There are a lot of new options in quality cameras, and technology in general. Matter of fact last Christmas we bought a new Casico Exilim for I think $240 or something like that.

I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT for around $850 a few years ago. Plus a couple hundred for lenses and accessories.

I would pay more for a better one as soon as I have the money. But I'm a photography student working on becoming professional so this is the lowest end camera I can use. I will get a better one when I have more money and when I'm also a better photographer.

Just today I bought my daughter the Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I guess the prices have gone down over the years as this was the more pricier one and cost me $619 (plus $35 for a memory card). My daughters friend does professional photography and that's how my daughter picked this one out. This is her 3rd camera upgrade in 3 years.

I think it was a good choice. That one didn't exist when I bought mine.
