I sometimes see parked domains with an ad "this domain for sale" and they usually want something like $5000.

Does anyone know - do people every actually buy these?

I mean, I have a few domains which I haven't had a chance to build sites on yet. If someone wanted to buy one for so much money I would happily sell it and find another niche. There are tons of niches.

So I wondered, should I offer my domain up for sale till I have time to work on it? And then if no one buys it, I make a site. Or is it just a waste of time ...

I have sold a few domains. I had purchased one for 99 cents and sold it for $600 through Sedo (they charge a commission of 10%) . Registering a domain is easy, selling it is not, especially if it is a poor quality domain.

When selling a domain I have had better results selling them in an auction, that way if the reserve bid is not met you can either accept the highest bid or keep the domain. Auctions can get you offers that a simple sales price may not.

domains with great traffic will sell for a good profit; domains are the virtual real estate of the world
