Everybody wants to know... What is the all time humpty dumpy secret of Affiliate Marketing? Well, to answer that question we need to dive down into the every depths of the Internet Marketing world. Are you ready? Let's go!

Ok so before we answer the question that's on everybody's mind, let's take a second and think about the true and time tested master or fundamental principles that make up any business whether online or off. So, what are these so called "master" principles? (take a minute and I'll bet you can guess) Wait a sec did I hear someone say it, that's right it's RESEARCH! Research my dear friends is where it all begins. It even starts (or at least should start) before you even begin to think about promoting to any and I mean ANY particular niche. It along with self-determination and hard work will eventually determine how big your end profit will be. It my friends is what determines if you are successful or not, it is your hammer and nail!

This Is The "Right Way"

Ok so here is how you do it, let's look at an example of how to perform the proper research and how to implement it. Alright so the other day I was reading in a popular little magazine that always comes with the Sunday morning newspaper. You might have heard of it, it's called Parade, and while I was thumbing through the pages I stumbled upon the perfect demonstration of "research applied."

It was an ad for a product called StriVectin which is a neck cream that supposedly deals with the problem of "turkey neck" for middle and older aged women.

It was a very simple ad that gets straight to the point. The ad basically read, Got Turkey Neck?... New StriVectin Neck Cream... visibly lifts, tightens, smoothes and tones neckline and dcolletage... Call (their number) or Visit (their website)... Remember "if you have skin... you need StriVectin" Oh and before the title of the ad it also read, StriVectin... "The Stretch-Mark Cream Turned Anti-Wrinkle Phenomenon!"

Let's Break It Down

I hope you've got a pen and pencil ready! Ok so first things first. Let's look at who their target market or should I say perfect customer really is. Well, from the title "Got Turkey Neck" and product, we know that their target market is women or more specific or "nichey" as I like to say, is older women suffering from old wrinkly skin, you know "turkey neck." (oh and in case you didn't know, women are the perfect customer or at least they hold the purchasing power and they also have a lot of problems that need to be solved and a lot of needs that need to be met, lots of things that drive them... hint, hint) And I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who read the Parade magazine are middle to older aged women. And the ad copy perfectly addresses their problem as well as a solution to it.

As you can see there is A LOT MORE that we can learn from this simple ad and apply into our own businesses, but I fear this post is already too long as it is... SORRY!

Yes, research is very important, and is often missed step by newbies.

I thought you guys would like a couple more tips on Affiliate Marketing...

The truth about any business whether it be online or off is this simple little fact, "True Principles Make Money And False Ones Do Not." Don't believe me, well then try running a business with the false ones and then tell me what you think. And for Affiliate Marketing or any Internet Marketing for that matter the true principles or should I say tips to "Affiliate Marketing Gold" are these...

1st Tip

Just like in the offline word Affiliate Marketing can be a tuff nut to crack and that is why this first tip/principle is so important. So, what is it... its RESEARCH, that's right research is what makes the world go round. The proper research can tell you many things including... who your target market is, who your perfect customer is, what products they want, how to promote these products to them "the right way", what keywords you should use, and most important of all... Will It Be Profitable?

2nd Tip

Relevancy, just like research, is very important and should be focus on and used more than anything else. Relevancy will help you match your perfect customer to the perfect keywords (including ad copy, ad groups, etc), landing pages (including squeeze, review or testimonial style), and ultimately the perfect profit.

3rd Tip

Just like the top two tips/principles the third one is just as important; it's called giving your perfect customer the perfect product/service. Think about it for a second... if I was searching for model airplanes and you tried to promote/sell model cars to me, guess what? You might make a sell every once and a while, but YOUR STILL WAY OFF!

Well, I hope you learned something useful from this post... Now just remember... Go and apply it!

Heck, I just find a group of people who are already looking for something, and then find a way to give it to them.

Usually it's just a case of searching for a company who can ship worldwide, and would be willing to give me a cut of any sales I direct to them. They take care of everything as they normally would on eBay or wherever. I never touch the product, I just put it in front of customers who are already dying to buy it (at an unbeatable price), and reap the rewards...

Find a starving market and feed them. Develop a list from them and give them a feast.

Great comments guys...

And you're right on about finding a profitable niche or hungry market...

As a matter of fact your campaigns should always be set-up like this...

Niche Market --> Perfect Customer --> Relevant Keywords --> Relevant Ads & Ad groups or Articles & Bio Boxes --> Relevant Landing Pages --> Relevant Product and/or Service Offerings

And believe me... the more closely you align these elements... the more money you will make

Catch ya later,

So 'relevancy' is the important thing then. I can definitely agree with that. People want what they're looking for with the least amount of effort / research / clicking etc. (And that applies to myself as well, lol).

Have you ever clicked on a link that took you to a place you were not expecting? For me as a web surfer, that is the fastest way to make me close a webpage.

Or clicking a link to end up on a page of more links!
That really bugs me..and I back out every time.

Here is another tip that seems to fit well in this thread, although most of you probably know it already. Use long tail keywords! This applies to both article marketing and pay per click ads. If you do a search for general words you will have lots of competition and won't get much traffic, but if you use specific keywords you will do better.
Just as an example, let's say you want to promote a site about fishing supplies. Don't use general keywords like "fishing supplies." Instead used focused keyword groups like "where to buy cheap fishing wire" or "surflon micro ultra fishing wire." Hope this helps.
