Hi everyone, I have been reading so much that the more I read the more I am confused so If anyone can help me again I surely would appreciate it.

What is 'residual income' ? How do you obtain it? Is It some kind of affiliate program (s)?

If I want to sign up for Wealthy Affiliate or PIP am I suppose to click on someones link in thier signature or go to the official site? I almost feel like I shouldn't be asking this question
I hope its ok.

Btw, How do I get that link in my signature from this site?

I am just too new I guess
Thanks for any help given

Hi,

Residual income is basically an income that keeps building based on your previous efforts and is basically on autopilot - at least that's my understanding of it. It does take hard work to get there, but you have to start somewhere!

Ok...normally I wouldn't say this, but since you asked, yes, you are more than welcome to sign up for Wealthy Affiliate through someone else's link!

Welcome!

Residual income can be made in different ways - the way a lot of people build residual with online businesses is by signing up people under them that are on a monthly autoship for a product or service or have a monthly membership fee to a program, where you are making a monthly commission from those sales.

As you build your business, and they build their business, your monthly check keeps growing - which is called 'residual' income - money that others are making for you.

It takes time to build it to that but it does happen.

Yup - that's what you do.

Once you have a website, blog or anything you want to promote - there are directions in the profile section for adding a signature link.

Have fun!

Whats the best way to start to getting a residual income? I am also new to the whole internet marketing thing and would appreciate any advice.

I agree with you, MyJessieCat, I find the more I read the more confused I become! I'm trying my best to gather all the information and process it.
Looking on the web I know it can be done, its just putting all the pieces together!

Myjessiecat,
Doing extensive research is important so that you don't lose money or spend money on some venture that has convinced you that you need to do it NOW, or the price goes up, blah blah blah. Use wisdom, read reviews, read in forums etc. There are many people who are scammed every day on the internet. And there are legitimate business's as well. It's up to you to make an informed decision.

If you are interested in affiliate marketing, I suggest Wealthy Affiliate University.
For residual income, I have a friend who is doing rather well with Success University.
Have a great day!

Yeah I have heard mixed opinions about Wealthy Affiliate. Lots of it has been Positive more so than negative. But it is those few Negatives that have got me stumped on whether I need to pursue this.
I would love to hear from more of you on your experience concerning Wealthy Affiliate ??

Thanks

My experience with Wealthy Affiliate has been very positive. I quit internet marketing twice before I found WA, and did not make any money online until after I joined WA.

As another member of this forum eluded to, Wealthy Affiliate isn't perfect, but there is a lot to like about WA, and the WA forum is a goldmine - if you joined WA just for a month and only read through the WA forum, you would get your money's worth.

I'd recommend joining Wealthy Affiliate for one month and you can use that month to evaluate WA and decide if you want to stick with it - if you chose the month to month billing option, you can always cancel if you decide that WA is not for you. However, be warned that WA is very addictive!

I've been in WA about 6 weeks. The best part of it is the forum. I haven't made any money as yet, but I keep trying. It helps if you have some techy skills which I don't have so it will take me longer than someone who can take off and design web sites and such.

I'm on a month to month basis and am not sure if it's where I want to stay or not. I have nothing to compare it to since this is my first IM venture. It's not a scam if that's what you're wondering about. It's an internet marketing school.

That's about as honest as it gets. Do your research.

I know the "confused" feeling only too well. I spent the first few months online in that state continuously!

Don't feel intimidated by that feeling or allow it to hinder you from progressing. The more you keep at it, the clearer things become, particularly if you find a good program and plug away at it faithfully.

Once I found SiteBuildIt (SBI) and realized how well it was laid out and just what I needed, I haven't looked back. I committed myself to giving it a year to see if I could make a profit and establish a foundation for a long term business. I'm so glad I did!

I'm just a few months away from being with them for 2 years. I've come a tremendously long distance in my knowledge, but I've pretty much just followed their step by step instructions and guidance. I provided my own brain and faithful efforts, of course.

I'm very pleased with my sites and my progress. I'm very thankful the Lord let me find a reputable, reliable, and understandable method to build an online business.

There seem to be different "definitions" on what is considered residual income when it comes to online marketing. I imagine most people think of it in terms of passive income, or income that continues repeatedly once the groundwork is laid with little or no continued effort.

Blessings,
Angie

Hey thanks to all of you who replied, I am very very thankful!

I think the confusion part is I don't know where to start. I have plenty of time to devote to this and I am a hard worker and will put forth the effort needed. I figure I have about 4-5 hours a night mostly but I don't want to put all that time into the wrong thing, plus losing money which I don't have much to play with.

I would like to know how many surveys do you get offered and how many do you do vs. the money earned? Maybe I can start off with that and keep researching other things in the meantime.

I like the sound of WA and SitebuiltIt amoungst others that sound appetizing. I just need the reading and researching more to get the feel for it.

Thank you .

Jessiecat,
Take your time, do your research and you will get your answer. I would say that if you have pretty good techy skills you would do Ok at WA, but if you don't then SBI is the way to go. Neither one of them are scams, however, it will take time to make enough money to quit a real job no matter which one you choose. That's my 2 cents.

Overall, I would say surveys are a very poor use of your time. I started doing them after signing up to about 100 companies (2006). Mostly, they were a waste of time.

Maybe 4 companies actually sent me enough surveys to take, qualify for, and then pay. When you work out the cost of your time versus the amount you are being paid, it really is poor wages indeed. And you aren't building anything. It will always take the same amount of work for the very small returns.

Starting your own business by building a website, etc., may be zero pay in the beginning as you are building, but eventually it pays regularly for hardly any work at all. If you can have a long term mindset, you will do much better over the long haul.

I'll send you a pm with some free resources for your reading that will help you get a better understanding of the whole concept and technique.

Blessings,
Angie

The definition of residual income is given here several times, so no need in repeating it. What I would say is look around. Also, if you are new to being online, look carefully and find something that is established with a good product. Do not rush into everything, as many of us have learned from experience is not the way to do it.

There are some companies where residual income is the primary way to earn, which is great and preferable. I can work or not work my business and my customers that I have never contacted and never will, will continue to order products and I will get the 20% commission on that without doing a thing. The company does all of the follow up.

Hi all, Hey much thanks again! I appreciate the help!

Sonni, I am not as you would say "techie" I do know my way around the web and computer to get by but definetly not "techie" I never had a web site yet. Also Sonni, Could you tell me the difference between WA and SBI? Thanks.

Happywife, I'll heed your advice ! Ok so thats out of the question for me. I want to make my time count more than that. I would rather spend that time building a site. So maybe SBI would be the answer? I really do like the idea of being an Affiliate. I know I won't get rich overnight and thats not what I am trying to do. I have read enough to know It will take time to build so I will work diligently and patiently.
Thank you for the pm I will take some time tomorrow and look at it all, I so appreciate your help Happywife.

That confused feeling is totally normal in my opinion. From what I can tell, everyone goes through that. To be honest with you, there's still some of it that confuses me!

Just don't think that you have to understand ALL of it before you get started. You don't. Pick a product to promote and then work on promoting that product. Get some advice from an experienced friend that can keep you on the right track. The biggest issue in the very beginning is to NOT give up! It's always slowest in the beginning, and I can't encourage you enough to keep plugging away at it!

I don't have WA, only SBI, so I can only compare them based on what I have read about WA and what others have said. They are both good programs.

WA is a monthly membership site that has training on how to make money through affiliate marketing. They also have a members forum that I've heard is really good. They explain how you can build an online income through building a website or article marketing, etc. It is pretty much paying the monthly $30.00 fee for the education.

I believe that they now also offer webhosting and site building tools as well which is making it more like SBI in many ways.

SBI (stands for SiteBuildIt) also has training on how to make money through affiliate marketing and other forms of marketing (selling hardgoods, services, your own digital products, Adsense and other advertising, etc.). It, too, has a phenomenal forum.

SBI has the brainstorming and research tools, the site building tools, the domain, the ezine, blogging, autoresponders, etc., all built in and integrated so that you build your site as you are learning the process.

The block by block sitebuilder with SBI is designed so that you don't have to be a 'techie' as you call it. It's basically just filling out a form and they add all the html codes and stuff behind the scenes. That was one of my favorite features when I started because it all sounded like a foreign language to me.

Of course, for those who ARE 'techie' you can also upload your own html if you prefer.

SBI costs $299 per year (basically, $25 per month) so they are even similar in cost.

As I said, I've not built any sites with WA, but I read some posts not long ago from a successful guy who uses both WA and SBI. He said that they both have really great programs but that his SBI sites seem to do better than those built with WA.

Perhaps that is because of the Analyzing tool that makes sure each page of your site is search engine friendly with the keywords in the right places and right amounts. Or maybe it is because of the way SBI automatically submits each page to the major search engines every time you build one.

I really don't know the answer to that or if it would be the same for everyone. I'm more or less 'gossiping' about what he said.

Yes, I love SBI the best because they were my lifesaver and helped me build successful sites. But I really don't think you'll go wrong with either of them if you just commit to it and DO it. ACTION is the key once you decide on a quality program.

Sorry if that is a bit of an ambiguous answer, but I am trying to be fair based on my somewhat limited knowledge.

Take things one step at a time and shoot me those questions when you are ready.

Blessings,
Angie

Ah Happywife, Thats basically what I was looking for in an answer. I just wondered if they were basically the same. It does sound like both are very good.

I guess I will check them out this weekend when I have more time.

Can you pay monthly ( $ 25.00 ) to SBI? I mean you don't have to pay the whole $ 299.00 up front right?

Thank you so very much! I sure appreciate your time and reply!!

Nope, sorry! You've got to pay the whole amount up front. A bit daunting, I know.

They do offer a 100% money back refund in the first 30 days and then a pro-rated refund any time after that. So, you would only pay for the time you've used the program if you decided to cancel.

It's my understanding that Ken Evoy (the owner) tries to discourage 'tire-kickers' by setting it up that way. He figures that people who are serious about building a successful online business are going to be willing to commit to a year's worth of honest effort.

SBI isn't get rich quick, so you aren't likely to make much (if any) money in the first few months anyway. You have to go into it with a mindset of building from the ground up.

It doesn't really do him any good to have a ton of people sign up for a couple of months and then give up when they find out how much effort is involved. It doesn't build his company's reputation by having a bunch of 'dissatisfied' customers which is what would result.

When people go into it thinking like I did, "Okay, I'll give it a year of honest effort and see what happens," they are almost always satisfied customers by the end of the year. (I would say always, but that probably isn't exactly true.)

My good husband was kind enough to let me put it on the credit card and see what I could do. Now he probably regrets it because I spend so much of my free time on the computer. But he is pleasantly surprised at my success!

Blessings,
Angie
