Hi all,

I have been at WA for about 2 months now... I thought I had SEO all figured out in my head, but the topic of backlinks is starting to confuse my...

I was told in the past to get as many backlinks as possible so I was going to get www.articlemarketer.com and submit articles to it, they distribute the article to 4000 directories... I figure 1 article per day X 4000 directories is loads of backlinks...

NOW, I am being told at WA that these type of backlinks are not good for you standing in google and can actually hurt your SEO standing... But WA don't tell you where to get backlinks they just say not to get them from these kind of sources.

If anyone has use a site directory submitter or a article directory submitter I would be greatful to hear your testimonial,

Thanks in advance,

Fergal

There is a guy called Griz he is a MMO SEO guy. He has a blogspot blog called makemoneyforbeginners I promise he knows what you want to know go to his site and READ. His blogspot is always 1st page of G and he's a backlink master. I don't know how to do all he says, but I do what I can. He's a straight up guy no fluff.

Fergal,

Manually submit your article to one, two, or three of the best articles sites at most. You'll get the best results that way. Submitting to additional sites won't add much to the results and will be a waste of time.

Sonni,

Griz obtains quality backlinks. That's one reason he does so well.

Quality backlinks are either acquired organically (someone with a high PR site links to your post), generated from one of your own sites, given by a friend, purchased with cash - recurring payments (not cheap).

As an aside, he also has some unremarkable backlinks as does everyone, but those are not why he ranks well.

Hey NS, what's your opinion on submitting your site to link directories to get backlinks? I submit to about 20 every day. Is this a waste of my time?

Hi Philip,

Same thing with any kind of submission site - for articles, press releases, directories - pick a very small handful of the most effective sites and move onto something else.

Thanks NS I see you're familiar with Griz and probably his friends Vic and Court. I read his blog and he explains it pretty well, but at times I still don't understand how to do what he does. Maybe someday...

Hi Philip,

You're welcome. Organically. Write newsworthy content and webmasters will link to you. On the other hand, it's good form to find a way to link back to them when they do.

You can also write articles and use free sites to create backlinks. Try to get listed in Yahoo. Comment on relevant blogs and forums while using a link in your sig. Try to figure out new ways to get backlinks

Though one way links may pack a little more punch than two way links, don't underestimate the value of two way links.

Thanks for the advice NS!

What do you mean by "...and use free sites to create backlinks."?

I'm trying to build links in the safest, fastest and "best practice" way possible, since from what I understand links are probably the most important necessity to rank in Google.

Is there a general rule of thumb for link building that can help us avoid link farms and other links or linking strategies that will negatively effect our rankings?

In my search for link building opportunities I come across very tempting sites that require you to upload a script to your server and then post a link on your homepage to get fully automated linking benefits. Are these site link farms? They describe their method as a sort of 3-way linking strategy. Database A links to sites on database B, and then B to C.

I primarily try to persue and trade links with other topic relevent sites, but I also accept trades with sites that aren't relevent. Any comment on this practice would be appreciated

Hey all...

I have come accross some great info on my travels...

1st of all, I bought articlemarketer.com, submitted 2 articles and now I went from 4th place in google to 1st in a matter of days!!!

The duplicate content theory is correct but not for articles...

Hi Footbag,

Actually, it is true - even for articles.

While it's true that you may be able to sneak in under the radar for a time, the Google algorithm will eventually flag the exact duplicates and push them way down out of site. This can even happen with near exact duplicates.

You're wasting your time by blasting the net with quantity. Some of it may stick for a short time but your efforts will be wasted. Why not just move on to creating new content instead of putting in so much time for a single page?

It takes SOO long to write articles tho... and bookmarking a squidoo and stuff like that...

I'm spend about 6 hours a day working online... there literally arn't enough hours in the day when it comes to affiliate marketing esp when you just starting out like me...
