Hiya,

I decided to start my own business and now have two sites with freewebs (and I hate freewebs, no one can get to my site, I have formatting issues, etc) and been looking at this forum to get some help with web hosting and advertising my site

So, I saw the recommendations for godaddy and hostgator, but their CS is very poor and they tried to sell me lots of stuff to help advertise my site, which I need help doing, and then I found the link to WA!

So, it seems like an education and I'm glad about it, and it doesn't seem too expensive when I think that I need to spend X on 2 domain names, x on transferring services, x on traffic generators, etc etc.

So, my question is:

Can I keep my two websites to advertise my businesses (i.e. get a domain name and content remains the same) or do I need to just design the sites the way they want me to do it?

Thanks!

Hi there, nice to see another new WA member! If you ever need any help with anything feel free to ask questions in this forum, or the WA forum, or send me a PM. There are several nice WA members here who are willing to help people out.

I'm a little confused about your this question though. Are you worried that you will have to change your current websites somehow? Do you just need to get hosting and domain names for your current sites? Sorry I don't understand the question that well. If you could make the question a little more specific I'd love to help though.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm looking for someone to host my two websites and help me out with them for graphic and formatting (since I'm clueless) as well as to help me get traffic to these sites. That's why I was thinking of WA, since it does website hosting, helping with advertising, etc.

Should I take the plunge? I realise that you will probably say yes, since you are a WA affiliate, but any objective advice would be most appreciated!

thanks!

Welcome arbequina,
I use freewebs and love it. I just use it as a website to send people to, same as if I had one that was professionally built.

What are your sites about? How are you trying to get traffic to them?

Traffic does not just naturally come to your websites unless you pay for things like google adwords,etc...

Most of the programs like WA are simply tools to help you learn how to do online marketing,etc.... so it will help you with that.

It doesn't happen overnight - and you are on the right track by asking questions...

HI mom of 5 (wow! impressive, my one drives me insane, I don't know how you do it!!)

Thanks for your reply! I am trying to start two businesses, actually. One website is a place where I want to auction off my high-end designer clothing and handbags because I cannot work at a corporate job anymore, since my baby was diagnosed with T 1 diabetes (genetic). So, there are lots of rich, older ladies who live in my town who I think would buy my stuff, since I've only used it a few times and I want to put all of the money I make towards a hypo-alert dog for my baby (as he cannot detect his hypoglycemic attacks anymore) and the dog costs 13K euro.

The other website is a English restaurant review site, as I like to go out to eat a lot, but I'm really picky. So, I tend to remember all sorts of details when I eat down to the texture of the food, hardness of the chairs, etc etc. I don't see anyone else doing this in my area, so this is the site I want to advertise, since I think that it is useful to stranded expats like me.

This is where I thought WA could help me - I need some help to advertise the sites locally and on the internet and I don't know how (even though I used to be a marketing manager, but internet marketing is really different, isn't it)? Freewebs is slow, often times, the content doesn't show up on the page, the formatting is all wierd...etc

Please, someone help me and think of all of the good karma you can get if I can manage to raise some money for my baby's hypo alert dog!!

Arbequina, I can guarantee you that WA will help, it's good for starters like you, so you can easily setup your pages, but to be honest, thats not what WA is about.

WA is about learning all possible ways of earning money on internet, whether is it like you said... with building up your own sites or for example through Google Adwords, articles, domains and such.

All I want to say is that you are not restrained to rely only on web desing, far from it! I know so many ppl from WA that earned thousands from sites that look like an old school html ones. It's not how you are giving, but what you are giving to your visitors. Content is the king, period!

If my skills of creating a decent looking page were same as yours, I would be focusing on creating an article on squidoo (which is a wonderful substitution for a normal landing page) from which I would link to the sales page.

Thats my 2c, feel free to ask any question!

OK, I'm pretty convinced, but just one last thing before I click on the sign up button:

Can I pick my host name and run a web store using WA?

Thanks!

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your original post. I thought you already joined, but now I realize that you are considering joining. Like everybody else said, WA is basically a tool to teach you how to advertise your websites. You can learn different techniques such as PPC and article marketing. It is possible to learn all this info for free various places, but WA compiles everything together to make it easier for beginners to learn (people like me, lol).

As for your question about hosting, you could use whatever you want. I use the WA hosting and haven't had a problem with it, but lots of people prefer to use a different hosting site, such as HostGator. People can make their own websites with whatever tools they want (SBI, Weebly, Freewebs, Site Rubix, BANS, etc) and host them wherever they want and still get the same results. Your hosting doesn't matter as much as your effort, since getting traffic to your sites is the most important thing.

Also, I'm sorry for your daughter. I have a cousin who has a son with all kinds of health problems, and they are trying to raise enough money to get one of those watch dogs too. I hope everything works out for you.

Sorry if you think I'm just trying to promote WA too. Even though I am a member there and have a reason to promote it, I only do so because it has personally helped me. I recommend it to any beginners who want to learn more about internet marketing. If you are only looking for web hosting though, I would check out a website that is dedicated to hosting. WA would be a great way to learn about advertising techniques, but if you are only interested in hosting then this may not appeal to you. You know what you need though. Good luck with whatever you decided to do.

Hi fatman (do you really call yourself that)?

Thanks for the advice. I'm really intrigued, and I do want to join, but I just want to also be assured that I ca move over my freewebs site to be hosted on WA. One has a webstore, is that possible (easy to set up) to have on a WA site?

Thanks for the nice words about my son. It's really been a trial, as after he was diagnosed, I lost my job because caring for him is so difficult that the school wouldn't take him and I get no benefits since I used to work in another country, but live (on the border of) another country. It costs a lot to keep up with his supplies, etc etc and without an income, I'm having to become creative here...

So, webstore possible with WA?

I actually haven't used Freewbs before, so I don't know too much about it. After just a quick glance at the site, it seems similar to Weebly, correct? If that's the case I'll have to check it out sometime. Did you make a site there and then pay for hosting there or somewhere else? Did you buy a domain name for your site?

If you have your own domain name and hosting somewhere else it should be pretty easy to transfer your hosting to wherever you want. If you have a webstore set up with one hosting place, I don't see how switching hosting would affect anything. With WA hosting (or any other hosting service), there are no regulations for whether or not you can have a store. Make your website however you want, then get it registered and up and running.

You should be able to just switch hosting if that is what you want. Or if you are considering making a new website with Site Rubix, you could do that too. I can't picture exactly what you mean by "webstore" but it sounds doable. Are you using a certain html code to make it into a store-like layout?

Also..yeah I go by fatman here, lol. I'm actually scrawny and I used the name as a bit of irony. I joined this forum with the purpose of asking one question and then leaving so I just picked a random name. After that I decided this was a nice forum though, and wanted to stay. So here I am, stuck with this silly name.

Hi Arbequina, I too am a member of WA. I'm new to internet marketing and have absolutely no techy skills. The best thing you can do is take your time in deciding what you want to do. I'm not sure from what you're saying that WA is what you're looking for. They do supply web hosting, but many people have had problems with it. Some manage to get their sites working. I don't use their web host, I use hostgator. I don't for fear it won't work for me because I know nothing about the techy stuff and if I had trouble I wouldn't be able to figure it out.

The best thing to me about WA is the forum. I learn more there than with the lessons I get each week. You could join on a month to month basis to see if it's what you want and if not then move on.
However, before you do that do tons of research so you can make an informed decision.

WA is not a scam, but is an Internet Marketing school. You will not most likely make money right away, most people don't.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Sonni,

I just want to be able to move my two sites over somewhere other than freewebs and also learn about how to make so more money in the meantime. Web hosting is included in the price, right?

Once I get my education, then I will probably be able to move myself over to hostgator, but at the present time, they keep adding all of this stuff to my quote, which makes it about the same price as WA, so I figured why not kill two birds with one stone?

Yes, hosting is included in the monthly payment, but not the domain registration.

Two birds with one stone? It's more like whole flock of birds with all the tools

OK, then, should I register the domain names with say, godaddy or hostgator (they both have such AWFUL CS), the guy at godaddy hung up on me (and I have to call long distance) the chat girl on hostgator just ignored me... what's a girl to do?

I have used 1&1 to buy domain names. I didn't have to contact customer service so I can't comment on that. But I registered a domain and it was good to go the next day. It's worth a try. And thanks for the comment on Godaddy, I haven't used them, but after your review I don't think I ever will. It really annoys me when sites have bad customer service.
Good luck!

I have also used 1&1 they have worked out good and have as competitive prices as anyone. They were also good on the phone when I had to call them. There is a forum called "No Daddy" and they sure do hate Go Daddy in there. Go Daddy will probably end up in some lawsuits, if they aren't already.

Yes, it doesn't really matter where you buy the domain name the prices are similar. The only thing that matters to me is that the domain name not taken!

Regarding costumer service... I don't have any clue, there is nothing to discuss to it anyway. Register at the site -> find a domain name -> buy a domain. That's about it

Hi arbequina,

For your websites, I don't think you should use WA hosting to host them with - I think you are better off going with Hostgator. You get a lot more bandwidth, and a lot more features to work with. All you need is a "baby" hosting plan under the "shared" option, and you can sign up with one of your existing domains.

Also, WA is about marketing - its not so much about building websites as it is learning how to market products online, with or without a website. If you have existing website, you will learn how to get targeted traffic to those websites.

Anyway, just thought I'd give you my two cents!

Thanks Keith, for your 2cents! Now, if I could just turn everyone's 2 cents into funds for my dog, it would be GOLD!

I bought 2 domain names from 1&1 yesterday, so that is done. Now, for this website thing - I really want to set up a webstore so I can sell my old expensive stuff to raise $$ for my hypo-alert dog, but I don't know how.

And hostgator want a lot of $$ to host a ready made one. That's why I was thinking of WA, because someone there can probably help me set one up for free, right?

Well...you could give WA hosting a try to see how you like it - you can get help setting it up if you run into problems by posting questions in the forum or sending a PM to Carson or Kyle directly. If for some reason the WA Hosting doesn't work out so great, you could always purchase hosting at a later date.

Having said this, I wouldn't join WA just for the hosting. While web hosting is one of the perks that comes with your WA membership, there is a lot more to WA than web hosting! I'd join WA if you want to learn how to make your websites profitable...

Have you ever tried selling on Ebay? It may not work for what you have but thought I'd mention it..

I really despise ebay because of their fees. Plus, they are not the same in my country as they are in the US. I tried to list one of my designer bags (took pics, wrote the description, etc etc), but then they suspended my account and in order to re-fix it, they said that I had to give them all of my personal information (like marriage certificate, etc) as well as an authenticity certificate, which I don't have because I tend to lose things like that.

All of my stuff is real and authentic. I swear. If you don't believe me, ask at the purse forum where I tend to spend a lot of time.

I am going to come back on your PM very soon, or I may start a thread at the CV area...

your marriage certificate?! That's insane and I don't blame you a bit.... Ebay has gotten so greedy with their fees.

I just thought I'd mention it. I wish I knew more about adding a shopping cart to a website myself... but I don't.

Yes, that would be a great idea to ask on the CV forum about doing CV in your country...we will both learn that way.

I am still a member, but now have figured out how to do SEO on my own without this crazy stuff, so now I will undo my membership and just rely on the good grace of Google to help me.
