I have a question - I have been writing articles, blogging etc, mostly to get traffic to my main websites but have not really pursued adsense much and am wanting to incorporate that with some of what I am doing ...
I admit that I am a bit lost here - I have adsense on my SBI site but as far as like on my articles... I send articles to places like ezinearticles, etc... is there any way to monetize those with adsense??
Or am I totally confusing myself with this..

Your article will be rejected from ezinearticles if you have links in the body of the article or if the link in your signature is not to a website owned by you. However, that is not the case with goarticles. I know you can have affiliate links in your signature, but not sure about the body of the article and I'm also not sure how you could use adsense here either.
I'm not too familiar with adsense at all, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of ezinearticle's policy on links.

Thanks and yes, I have over 80 articles with them so I have been thru a few hoops with them but they are still my favorite.

Yeah, I actually love to hear people complain that Ezinearticles is too 'picky'. That tells me they are committed to keeping their spot as #1 article directory and that my articles there will be respected more than the same article on an instant-publish, no rules type of directory.
As for the original question, I like to use ezinearticles articles to attract traffic to websites that consist of - wait for it... more articles.
Set up a mini article directory of your own. I've even had success with sites where I took 90% of the site's content from ezinearticles by republishing. Now, those pages will be duplicate content so they won't bring traffic on their own, but it gives visitors to your sites more options without requiring more work. I rely on the ezinearticles articles I've submitted plus that 10% of original content to bring in traffic.
Don't get me wrong, 100% original content is much, much better, but it's also much, much more work. I'm not really advocating this business model, just saying it's something I've done and had some success with.

Try republishing your articles at Triond or Associated Content , they share revenue with you

I'm pretty sure you can only use your adsense on your own sites. I would suspect that most article directories, etc., if they have ads are for their own additional income apart from the revenue sharing ones that have been mentioned.

Angie, do you put adsense on pretty much all your SBI pages??

Hey MM,
I like associated content 100%. Much like ezine once you get a few good articles under your belt you get a quicker posting on current articles. If you're like me and somewhat into politics also it's a godo place to drop your thoughts and have people read them and make money. I have 3 accounts there. 1 for opendomain, 1 for a side project i'm working on, and 1 for my political views. It's really quite fun as people can leave comments on your articles as well.
In addition they rank fairly well. I've had more than 1 article go 1st spot on google. 10 top on very broad topics as well (is gdi a scam) for instance. #8 as of today. ...and i've not promoted this article beyond a few blog links and website links.

Yes, I do put Adsense on most of my pages. I used to put three units per page - one at the top below the headline, one in the upper left of the page in between the text, and one at the bottom.
For the last few months I've gone to just adding the top two and leaving off the bottom one. This is for 2 reasons. The first is that I've been told that the amount you get per click is greater when you have fewer units on the page, and the second is because I've been using more C2 invitation forms on the bottom.
I don't use Adsense on all pages, though. There are some pages that I really don't want to distract my visitor away from the main product I am recommending (my 'most wanted response'). On those pages I just leave it off.
Also, I don't put the Adsense on until after I've reached an average of at least 20+ unique visitors a day to my site and at least 30 pages. That's when I start to monetize. So, generally I have more pages than that and I have to go back and ad the Adsense. I think I still have some pages on my newest site that need to be updated.
You are right in thinking that your best option is just to add more content pages to your site. The more pages you have the more chances to draw in traffic, the more chances of clicks, etc.
Slow and steady progress gets you there in the end!

You make 2 very good points here...
First, you see too many sites with adsense scattered all over every page. I think people's justification for this is that the more ads someone sees, the more the chances for one of those ads to catch somebody's interest and make them click. From my own surfing habits (and i'll be the first to admit I'm not the most patient surfer), when I see a page that use a template with ad blocks all over I usually hit back immediately because such pages look like spam to me. Additionally, if you have fewer ads you increase the chances that the clicks you do get are on the ads with the top bid. This makes a big difference in how much you get paid for those clicks since the difference in bid between ad position #1 and #7 can be huge.
Second, if you're dealing with a page where you make a different type of offer (an affiliate product or something like that), then the adsense ads will be your competition. You've done the work of building a page then getting interested eyes on that page, then you lose them for a buck or 2. Not the smartest business practice.
Just to show how effective and consistent ezinearticles can be as a traffic source: I built a site in the education niche. It was one of the first sites I built and I was looking for a short-cut to getting backlinks. I used a mass directory submitter (search engines hate this). Because I used the submitter, all the pages got deindexed (they are nowhere to be found on Google, MSN, or Yahoo search engines).
As part of the promotional process for this site, I wrote maybe 10 articles that I submitted to Ezinearticles. To this day (2+ years since the site was built and the articles submitted to ezinearticles), the site gets maybe 50 uniques per month and makes $15 or so. For an abandoned site that I haven't touched or promoted in 2 years, this is pretty awesome. Obviously you won't make a living off it, but I have 10 websites hosted on that particular server and this one abandoned site pays for all the hosting so any profit the others make (and they're all better, of course) is gravy.
