Hi Everyone,
Has anyone had any luck promoting their site with press releases?
I just wrote my first press release and submitted it to 4 free sites. I plan on submitting it to more when I have the time.
I'm looking for traffic and SEO link benefits from the PRs and I'd love to hear any success stories.

I love press releases. Personally I use http://www.ereleases.com/. They are a pay service and on the pricey end.
However everytime I have used them to promote a product I receive way more than I spend. I have them write my press release based off my affiliates website. (so I do no work at all).
Then I have them promote the website for me. When the website converts at 3% and I just bought myself a form of advertising that saves me countless hours and is done professionally, it is well worth my while for the money spent.
Using a PR along with your normal day to day promoting is a very profitable strategy. If you use a PR to promote an affiliate link you are just the middle man. It is a beautiful thing when a company pays you to promote their product, and in turn you pay someone less to promote their product and you keep the difference.
It simply makes good business sense.
Offline marketing (through PRs and other ways) is an often forgot about form of advertising online content that IS costing you a ton of money.
There will always be a cap on your income if you do not outsource. You can only do so much work yourself. So outsource your work and get paid what you deserve  .

I use free-press-release.com. I found that it has a very high google rating. I would say keep using the free sites, but diversify and also use blogs and article sites as well

Hi Philip,
Press releases work well. I've used a few free sites and a paid release site.
Haven't done too many but they are still high up on the SERPs over a year later. Got spammed in my email for a few months but managed to fix that. As you've mentioned, you also get backlinks.
Press releases are part of my fundamental marketing strategy. Just be sure to write your best as you would with anything else.
As with submitting articles, don't waste your time using more than one or two press release sites for a single page. It's more productive to move onto something else such as building a new page for your site.
The press release sites are easy to find on Google. Just use "free press release" and "press release site".

I have thought about press releases but thought my writing wasn't good enough yet. I don't want to do a press release if I'm not ready so to speak. Maybe I should read a few to see if I could do it.
Ok, I talked myself into it. Just kidding. I'm still chicken. lol

If you dont have your own unique company, why would an editor pick up the story? The fact is you've got to know some editors. Take a few weeks, find some editors and start communicating with them about what type of stories they would be interested in. No matter what anybody says-- an unwanted press release is like spam. Editors dont have the time to weed through releases all day.

Thank you to everyone for the feedback!
Like I said when I started this topic, I just submitted my first press release and hadn't had a chance to see the results yet.
Well my online presents kind of blew up from the press release! I Google search my domain in quotes, like this "mydomain.com", and monitor the number of results daily just for grins. Anyway, the results more than quarupled in just a few day. It's been about 10 days now since I released the PR, and the Google results are at about 10 times what they were.
Now, honestly, this hasn't increased my traffic much, but I think that it was worth it just for the amount of backlinks that I got. Are they permanet backlinks? I don't think that they all are, but some is good enough for me
NS - I've got a question for you. You said...

Can you explain to us why it wouldn't benefit us to submit to more than one or two PR sites? My newb logic says to me that the more sites I submit my PR to, the more links I'll get when each of those sites distributes my PR to different news sources.

Hi Philip,
Sure, it's the 80/20 rule. 80% of your results come from the most focused and productive (20%) of your efforts.
The law of diminishing returns is the same for most everything you do. It has to do with efficiency.
It means that the remaining 80% of your efforts aren't worth spending an equal amount of time on.
Instead of "one or two", it may be "three or four" or even "four or five" depending upon how productive the release sites are. The point is to choose those that will really count and ignore the rest.
Just as there are only a small handful of article sites that are worth submitting articles to, same is true for press release sites. Don't waste your time on sites that won't be the very most productive.
Bottom line is do as you wish. It's just a guideline. I think your time would be best spent submitting to a couple sites and then spending your time on creating a new page for your website, tweaking the appearance, studying something new, or whatever.
If you submit to a couple/three effective release sites and your stuff is worth syndicating, it'll get syndicated. Furthermore, if your pages on your site are news-worthy, other webmasters will syndicate (link to) it for you ;)
Make your pages news-worthy.
I don't buy into the "blast 'em with quantity" mentality.

Time management is something that I definately need to work on. Sometimes I end up spending to much time on stuff that only wastes my time.
