Will one way link building be a good seo method? How many such links needed for top ranking for competitive key phrases? they say most search engines give great importance to one way links, it enhances the site's ranking.

Can ppl share their ideas?

there's one company one-way-links.com which has great testimonials from top sites that have benefited from one way linking. Is it worth a shot?

I think he means linkbacks - links to your site.

Forgive me if I'm being really thick.. but does this mean that having lots of blogs, squidoo and other 'free' sites linking to your main site will have a significant effect on rank etc?

Or is it more complicated?

As I understand it, one way links are better than reciprocal as they are more 'natural' ?

P.S I dont mind if you make me look stoopid.. for not understanding.. I'm having another slow thinking sort of day...

South,

You aren't being thick. Yes, having links from your blog or another site to your site is what is meant. I helps even more if you can get links from higher PR sites.

PC_WORK,

Yes the adding of more unique content to your site is one part of the PR equation. But there are many other components. We all need to do as much as we can.

You are right though - quality content is critical if you want to make a site that is respected and makes sales. Even better, you will get return visitors.

Unlike reciprocal linking. Getting links to your site without you linking to them.

Its just enough if you understand this: A link from quality website (high PageRank) is far more valuable than 100s of links from low quality websites.

Myspace has a pr of 8, so will starting a page there and putting up a link to our site help?

Actually no on the myspace lets add to this equation a little math

Each link from a site is worth a equal portion of that sites rank. Thus a pr4 site that has 1 link to your site is going to worth more to your rank then a pr9 site that has 30 links to 30 diff sites.

I am afraid I don't understand this. Could you please explain this?

OK I forgot to mention but It's not the PR of the site as whole but the PR of the page that links to you is important (but I believe the PR of the site as whole matters too and can be debated, as a link on PR 4 page of a PR 9 site can be worth more in the eyes of Google than a link on PR 4 page of a PR 5 site). It is indeed a bit complicated.

And like netvalar said, the number of outgoing links on the page linking to you is also equally important. More the outgoing links, less is the weight or worth of each link.

I think the formula has changed this time. A few of my sites are Pr5 without any link building

pcwork,

You have a site with a PR of 5 without any linkbacks? That sounds odd.

If you tell me what your site addy is, I'll be happy to tell you how many linkbacks you have.

Newbie

How do you find out the PR of a given site?
I've read somewhere that there is a pr indicator on google toolbar?
Is this how you find out..?

Plus how do you find out about linkbacks?

Just curious not saying i will understand the answer... but i will have a go!

cheers
sue

Actually I am using a page of the site as the alternate ad for my PPC advertising, and so the page is displayed across a large network of sites. Maybe that is why it is PR5.

naturalis,

You just download and install the google toolbar. Then you configure it so that the page rank meter shows up. As you surf to each site, the meter will tell you what the page rank is. To get a numerical read out, you just do a mouse-over on the meter.

That's the easiest and most convenient way to do it.
