Ok... so each morning I check the stats on a website of mine, and I usually look at the places I'm getting visitors from. At the top of the list I usually find search engines, some of the promotional links I spread out, and then there's usually a few links that have sprouted on their own (unsolicited people who just happen to link to me). It is in that last category that I have noticed something interesting in the last few days. Within the last week, I've noticed that I'm getting visitors from a few asian pornography sites??? Absolutely NO idea what's going on with that... Can't possibly think of any reason why any ONE such site would find the need to link to me, let alone four of them linking to me Not distressed by any means...just a bit....confused, as my site has absolutely nothing to do with sex or sexuality. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.

Hi Thugfried,

It could be a number of things:

1. They may be baiting you and several other sites into visiting their sites.

2. Not to be an alarmist, but you may be under attack. You might contact your ISP.

3. Perhaps they have back links on their site. Put up your firewall and check it out.

If I were in your shoes I would certainly look into it. It seems odd and odd always deserves to be investigated.

Good luck,

Hey, thanks for the response ~NS~

My web host has a forum where all the webmasters post their site and hosting related stuff, so I went poking around there as well. Turns out a bunch of other people have noticed the same thing starting about the same time as myself.

Current school of thought is that it is essential linkbaiting and referrer spamming. These sites could be looking for people to click back to them, or they could be fishing for sites where referrer data is published and public and using that as a way of massively spreading links in attempts to not only grab visitors but to boost link popularity as well.

I kicked up the firewall, antivirus, and all that, and I checked out one of the sites. Before the page even loaded, my PC stopped an incoming worm intrusion ~ Nice... So, I'm guessing they're also hoping to "communicate their disease" as well.

Anyway, I'm guessing they're hitting up many thousands of sites like this, and I definitely don't advise following their links back to their sites.

Take Care
