These are the web pages that say 'Click here to enter' or just have the site's name which you click to enter the main site. These are great fun for the web-site designers, but really all you are doing is putting a barrier in front of your site. If people are visiting your site they are doing so because they want to see you work and not to be faced with another obstacle to cross before they get there.

A splash page can also offer a really great opt-in offer too. I have a splash page for my leads system that's just part of my regular domain.

I use it in traffic exchanges because people are so quick to want to click on the x when they're surfing for credits.

If you really show them something good, you can get opt-ins from a simple splash page.

P.S. I'm almost done with my new website everyone. It's going to be a lot of fun. It's been fun building it.

I am not trying to be an SEO expert here. But having a splash screen as the landing or the home page of an website is not a good idea. I suppose splash pages are not a must for opt-in offer.
Just my opinion.

I can see why a web master would consider a splash screen. However, I think that for the most part it turns people off.

If I go to a site, I don't want to have to click through a splash screen. I don't want to wait while some FLASH programming loads. I want to be right on the home page so I can dig right in. I'd say that a splash screen generally works against the business.

I use it in traffic exchanges because people are so quick to want to click on the x when they're surfing for credits.

two things on this:
1. I hate that.
2. Don't use it as your index(home page) create a page somewhere in your directory specifically for site exchanges that way your home page is just that a home page. If you look at my Yuwie sig that's the page I use for traffic exchanges because it's fast and to the point, however my homepage is a little more detailed in the point I want to get accross.

If you want to use a traffic exchange that has more than JUST CLICK TO GET CREDIT appeal then checkout GET TRAFFIC link in my sig. I have found that this site converts more people simply because they have to actually read your site to get information to EARN a credit. Very good if your splash page is powerful.

I'm not entirely against splash pages. If it's designed really well it actually shows how much time is being put into the site's design and that might even keep me browsing further. If it's a simple 'click here' button however, it's most likely very off-putting.
