Hello,

I have always wanted to start an eggroll business. My grandmother used to cater food while I was growing up and one of her best creations was grandma's eggrolls. Anybody have any ideas how I can go about doing this? I really need to make some money or else I would have to go back to work and leave my baby in daycare (which I can't really afford).

I was thinking about maybe selling frozen eggrolls online or starting an online store. I gave so many people and company free samples of these delicious eggrolls and I have not heard a single person say it was bad. Instead everyone who has tried them said I can make a really good business because these rolls cannot be found anywhere.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Perhaps if you built a website and created flyers, etc, you might get more attention. I would certainly be interested, as eggrolls are one of my favorites, and I don't believe I have heard of anyone doing what you're planning.

You could then let people know what your costs to ship to different areas and how your product is handled and packaged. This may be a stupid question, but wouldn't the eggrolls defrost if you don't overnight ship or something?

Thanks for your input. made2prosper, you can email me your information so I can send you some free samples ([email protected]).

WhitePhoenix, yes the eggrolls would have to be sent overnight. I probably will use dry ice and a styrofoam cooler to send. I haven't thought it through but there are ways to send to keep the eggrolls frozen.

Actually I did have a website in the past but it was too hard for me to have this business while working full time. I recently thought of doing this business again because now I'm a stay at home mom and I need the extra income. I also want to do what I enjoy so I thought this idea would be the best fit for me.

Well, good luck to you in your endeavor! I will make note of your email, and would certainly be interested in purchasing from you - then I don't have to make them myself! (I have made hundreds of them myself, but don't have the time lately, and I do so enjoy eating them!)

This might sound silly? But what are eggrolls? Are they like omelettes?

I imagine all health and food safety regulations would have to be adhered to sending food.

Sorry about my ignorance but in Australia Pavlova's are a good seller.

It is very good and unique idea. I think, you will surely succeed. One should try the business which is known to him and I think as you have idea in catering food, you should opt this for business.

Crafty Lass,

An eggroll is usually shredded cabbage, onion, celary, soy sauce, and either minced pork or beef . Everything gets put in an egg roll wrapper (4 1/2" by 5 1/2"). Then it is deep fried, atleast that is how I do it. I was reading other recipes online and some people wok fry the stuff before putting it in the wrapper.

Here is a link to a picture and recipe.

great idea! My wife is filipino and her family makes awesome mini eggrolls. if your idea takes off and you want to add varieties keep me in mind.

I think you are on to something here. How would people prepare and how would you ship frozen? Would it still be cost effective?

Good luck to you.

danbu1, sorry it's just taken me over 2 years to respond. i totally forgot about my entry here at the work at home forum. well i did start the eggroll business but for now i just sell them local. the online ordering of these rolls will have to wait until i have my own shop. right now i'm just doing this business on the side. i do make varieties of eggrolls. my signature rolls are made with pork but i pretty much can customize them according to your needs. i've made vegetarian ones and seafood ones and even dessert ones. a few years ago for thanksgiving i made thanksgiving rolls (with ingredients on stuffing). all of my co-workers loved them. so dan, if you'd like to try some, just email me and i'll try to ship some to you.

whitephoenix, i do have a website but i'll come back here to give you the info on that once the site is updated. it's under construction right now.

yofiona, how is your business doing? Which state are you in?
In order to sell the eggroll, do you need to past food inspection? I would like to do start business also.
Thanks,
