Whenever across something which claims to be able to make money from home, google the name of the program/business. There are usually plenty of reviews which will give you a pretty good indication on whether something is real or not.

This is a very good thread. People should know how to identify scammers. There are just too many out there trying to ruin our opportunities.

Like the old saying goes, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." This is not always the case, but alot of times your gut will tell you whether or not something is legit or not.

Also, doing research helps ALOT. I almost bought into a scam before I actually did research on it. Thank goodness I did because it would have been $200 dollars down the drain.

Another thing, if it's overtly pricey, then it could be a scam as well. But it all comes down to doing your research

I also think if products promise you tons of cash for doing next to no work and the money will roll in after a couple of days Watch out these are the scams.

Vishal P. Rao

So many replies! Good!

Don't know if this has already been covered, but beware of job ads that are selling the work from home "ideal" as opposed to giving you actual info on a position.

Also, I'm always a little leery of ads that read something like, "International marketing company rapidly expanding in your area. Hundreds of positions available. No experience necessary...make hundreds of dollars TODAY!" Clearly these are targeting people who are still wet behind the ears and attracted to the hyped up possibility of getting rich with no experience and (probably) very little effort. Think...and then run...fast!

HTH!

One must be very careful when looking at MLM's. Must are not scams as long as one is willing to put the work into them. As with anything if you do not implement the program and just sit back and wait for it to do everything for you will never get any where. On the other hand if you take action you can make it happen with most companies. It is easy to see why people are quick to judge MLM's as all being scams if they don't do the work and they always fail.

As someone who has been taken in by a scam or two in my time, let me say that I am happy there are forums like this around to help people.

I have to agree with what another poster has said. I always go to www.imreportcard.com before I serious consider spending money on a product.

In my experience they really do provide honest and accurate reviews.

Pretty much the answer is that age old adage. If it seems too good to be true, it is. Starting your own home based business is a lot of work.

Yes..i agree with it..

There are a TON of posts on here so I'll probably be repeating what a lot of other people have already said but I wanna chime in too
MOST online jobs are scams, what i always do before i purchase anything (or in this case, see if some "online job" is legitimate) is go to google and see what other people have to say about it first! Google is my life source!haha. There ARE legitimate ways to make money online though, just got to do some research and work at it.

O.K. I definately agree with the fact that there are a numerous amount of SCAMS in the way of Work At Home Oppotrunities on the internet and How To Make Money Online. I also agree with the fact that, if they are asking you to pay for a job with them, then it is definately a SCAM, but I also know that there is always a little investment when you are starting up your own business. "Nothing in life worth having is ever going to come easy or free." You have to be willing to invest time and effort to work your business, if you want it to make you any money. I have fallen victim to a great deal of "Make Money At Home" SCAMS over the years, because I was so gung ho with finding a job I could do at home so I could spend my time at home with my family, but I do know that some Great Opportunities do exist.

In simple terms if you are asked to pay for doing a job .. 99% of time it is going to be a scam sooner or later...

If some offer is not reasonable or unbelievable just ignore that one.. sooner or later that will also be a scam..

If some site says they are not scammers like others ...better stay away...

The basic rule of thumb everyone should adhere to so as to safeguard themselves from scams is to look at the credentials of the work from home or small business opportunity.

They should be real and proven resources that have built their credentials over many years, and not these so-called Gurus with Zero credentials with the main intention of ripping-off individuals.

Ask yourself this question, if you had a strategy or work from home opportunity that brings you great wealth, would you share it with other individuals? I most certainly wouldn't!

The only true way to establish a real home business is to educate yourself with accredited or reputable teaching resources.

One of the ways to identify a scam
is to check if this person is real.

This is easier to do today because of
the social networking communities available.

You can:
1 Google their name and company
2. Connect with them on Facebook or
any other social community
3. Check if they have a blog or an
information website that provides infornation
on that person not just the company.

When I personally speak with a prospect, I want
them to connect with him on Facebook and YouTube,
and to check out my blog.

This creates a relationship because of the connection
between real person, through videos. Its not just
a voice on the phone.

I hope this helps.

Tommy

I agree with getagrip. Do your research not all are scams. I do question anything that offers you that you will get rich quick with little effort.

One of my pet peeves.... survey sites!

There are legitimate survey sites out there no doubt, but I have yet to find one that actually pays significant cash.

With some of them you can earn points, but the cash paying ones... before you sign up, be sure to read ALL the small print.

I did, and at least one of them said that in order to be eligible for cash, you have to sign up for a certain number of trial offers (and, well, good luck getting out of them again in time without getting charged!).

So I'm not saying that all surveys are scams, but you've GOT to read the small print and know what the conditions are.

Very useful information shared by everyone. I have been cheated by the scams twice and lost a few bugs too. But now after going through the whole thread I guess I won't repeat that again.

Be skeptical. Ask questions. If they say they're a successful company, ask for proof!

Red flag you can't talk to a company representative in person. Before you make a significant investment in a business opportunity, give the vendors a call.

Talk to them in person. Ask them hard questions.
If they don't make it easy for you to talk to them in person, then don't do business with them!
