My background is in management for a large commmercial lines insurance company, so I certainly was very new to the sales side when I started working from home mainly through the internet. I also am no internet guru. What I have found over the last 5 years is that you have to hunt for something solid - not some money game, believe in it, understand it, and work with people that will assist you. You also need to assist those that join under you. It does take a long time to get a solid business going. Some folks jump online and think they will make a fortune in a few months. If that were the case, the whole world would be in that particular business venture. It is work, and it does take time. I always put most to all earnings back in the business for the first couple of years as well to make sure it grows into a solid business. I was able to leave my management career early due to this and love the freedom of working from home.

Denise, I do agree that any business takes time. There's no such thing as a get rich quick scheme.

  3. This is very true. You need to create value and show how you can help your customer. Thanks for pointing this out! :)

List building is still king in MLM type of online businesses, however if you are a Clickbank affiliate (or any other network) selling non-money making products....giving people information is as equally important and can provide a lot of success as well.

Kevin, you've certainly given some great advice in this post. I'd like to re-emphasize your point about giving value.
Providing content to your subscribers, that is relevant to the offer that they opted into, is key to building a relationship and trust.

Too many new marketers get carried away with just pitching their list constantly, and this just lowers the percentage of people who will actually want to open and read your emails.

Also, it is useful to invest some time and energy into educating yourself and developing some copywriting skills i.e how to right effective emails to engage your subscribers

    I'd also like to add
    1. Please stop wasting your time spamming Facebook groups... I couldn't think of a worse way to use your time to grow your Business...
    2. Don't be scammed by "Get a million leads products"... There are no shortcuts to success... The quicker you realize this the quicker you will be on the path to success...

    Hi all,
I do agree with the building of a list. However i do marketing without the list with success as well.
Some people are scared off by the squeeze pages and having to give e-mail addresses. I have promoted the same products with and without lists and both have similar outcomes. I am a believer in promotion of a quality product that is supported by real people on the same wavelength, who are there to help the customer.
I think that researching a quality product and sticking with it and supporting it is defiantly a good start.

    That's just my own opinion.

I agree. Nothing is more detrimental to your business (and your credibility) than spamming.

Thanks! I was just thinking about doing this as part of my blog, because I was told that Google won't sandbox you as long as you space them out in blog posts or have the offers in the sidebar, and you still have more great content than marketing.
